Lab Technician

Location: Cedar Rapids, IA

Pay rate: $22/ hr

Duration: 6 Months+

Hours: This is a rotating shift 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am

Job Duties:

Sample Preparation and Testing: Prepare process and finished product samples; perform analytical testing using instruments and wet chemistry procedures; record results using computerized data systems.

Process Monitoring: Conduct daily process monitoring tests throughout the plant.

Sample Maintenance: Keep samples of tested products to confirm results if necessary.

Documentation and Reporting: Document all test results and notify operations of required adjustments promptly. Enter and report data using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Production Understanding: Understand production processes and may make recommendations to operators to ensure product quality.

Equipment Maintenance: Perform light maintenance and calibration on all lab equipment.

Supply Management: Maintain adequate testing supplies and notify the supervisor when re-ordering is needed.

Quality Assurance: Compare equipment readouts with standard samples to ensure system accuracy.

Work Area Maintenance: Keep the work area neat and clean, wash equipment, and store it properly.

Team Collaboration: Maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees.

Safety: Perform duties safely using approved safety equipment and complete all safety certification requirements.

Regulation Adherence: Follow all FDA, GMP, BATF, EPA, OSHA, and company standards and guidelines.

Preferred Education/Training:

2 or more years in a science-related degree.

Preferred Experience:

Good attendance history.

Excellent safety record and awareness.

Proficiency with lab instrument operation programs and commercial software applications (Excel, Word).

Experience with lab documentation.

Experience with standard lab equipment (e.g., pH meter, balances, spectrophotometer).

Adequate math skills for lab testing calculations.

Previous plant experience.
