Role: Lab/Engineering Technician

Location: Sunnyvale, CA (Onsite)


The Clinical Development Lab Technician (CDLT) executes laboratory experiments alongside Clinical Development Engineers to evaluate the safety and efficacy of products for our surgical robotic system platforms. The CDLT is responsible for conducting laboratory experiments on bench-top tissue models, supporting execution and data collection during ex-vivo and in-vivo laboratory experiments, managing laboratory equipment and study logistics, and assisting in documentation and data analysis. The Clinical Development Engineering team at Intuitive Surgical holds a unique position within product development by identifying clinical value through enabling the safe, effective, and reliable use of surgical robotic platforms and their components. With your passion for patient care, your laboratory experience and your proficiency with experimental methods, you will work alongside the clinical engineering group to test products in laboratory settings.

Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Handles, dissects, prepares and applies therapy to various ex-vivo tissues
  • Performs laboratory experiments utilizing the da Vinci Surgical Platforms and competitor products on ex-vivo tissue benchtop models
  • Assists in execution of product development laboratory assessments and pre-clinical validations
  • Collects and documents data during laboratory experiments
  • Provides set-up and end of lab clean up support
  • Assembles, troubleshoots and maintains laboratory equipment
  • Fabricates dry bench top models for testing
  • Manages logistics for onsite and off site studies, including tissue and/or equipment shipping, ordering, tracking, and receiving
  • Assists in documentation and data analysis, such as inputting values into a database, converting raw data into tables and graphs, and reviewing and editing video
  • Keeps the organization s vision and values at the forefront of decision making and action
  • Communicates findings in a timely and organized manner to engineering team

More About the role:

Engineering focused projects rather than biology.

  • Some engineering or more technical type of background is preferred. Biomedical engineering background is preferred to more biology focused background.
  • More medical device related or engineering background.
  • In the lab they are helping with robotic system, preparing lab environment, catheters and very hands-on with medical equipment like bronchoscopes, CT scanners, fluoroscopy systems and bigger equipment.
  • Engineering minds set people are better fit for this role.
  • Bachelors in biomedical engineering is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in medical device industry is strongly preferred.
  • Experience is most preferred than bachelor s degree.
  • From entry level candidates with interest in medical devices to 3-5 years of experience.
  • Background with bio engineering degree.
  • 100% onsite position.
  • Negotiation with cross functional teams is very important.
