Lab Assistant 2

Position Information

The Incumbent serves as the primary support staff for the lower division labs in Cellular Basis of Life (Bio 2) and . Organisms in Their Environment (Bio 3). The person filling the position also has significant responsibilities as back-up for all other biology labs prepped by staff, assisting where available. Provides guidance regarding equipment and other laboratory procedures to teaching assistants, staff, and faculty. Effective communication with faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students to provide assistance, supervision, or instruction as needed is essential to the successful performance of the position. The performance of the duties In this position can affect the lab experience of 800 plus students each quarter. Maintain accurate records for the receipt of deliveries for three departments, Inventory of supplies and equipment and chemical or biohazard waste. May direct daily activities of student employees to accomplish these goals, thus requiring the ability to prioritize tasks for self and others.

There is one position available for this recruitment and is currently being advertised under two separate postings, as a Lab Assistant 2 recruitment and Lab Assistant 3 recruitment . The full salary range for the Lab Assistant 2 is $21.47 - $25.29 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Education

Education Requirements

• Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and two years of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or sacral sciences and one year of laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. (Required)

License Requirements

• Valid California Drivers Licence (Required)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience (Preferred)

Minimum Requirements

Competent In the use of laboratory equipment such as micropipetters, pH meters, spectrophotometers, microscopes, autoclaves and centrifuges. Ability to recognize equipment operating in a substandard manner.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to lift 50 pounds with assistance. Knowledge of recommended safe laboratory techniques for both chemical and biological hazards. Ability to multi-task while maintaining quality work with a high rate of productivity. Prior experience In ordering and maintaining general lab inventory. Able to adapt procedures or set-ups according to availability of materials or equipment. Skill In accurate record keeping with strict attention to detail. Skill in organizing tasks, documents and materials with efficiency and accuracy. Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, email programs and other standard office programs. Familiarity with iMac and PC computers.
