The Judy and John McCarter Family Fellowship Program offers a recent college graduate the opportunity for hands-on work in research, writing, reporting and producing for WTTW News, and the Chicago Tonight television program. WTTW News is a premier public media source for Chicago news focusing specifically on politics, education, business, culture, science/technology and health coverage. WTTW News includes television (Chicago Tonight), digital , and social platforms. Chicago Tonight is a nightly public affairs program that airs on WTTW, Chicago's PBS station, as well as on YouTube, Facebook and our website. The fellowship is offered through the Judy and John McCarter Family Fellowship Program, which helps build diversity in the next generation of media producers and addresses a vital need for opportunities for young adults from under-represented communities. The experience gained through these internship opportunities helps to provide a more prepared and diverse pool of trained media professionals. GENERAL INFORMATION The McCarter Fellowship is a six-month, full-time fellowship that runs from February - August 2024. The fellow will be paid $18 an hour and work a 40-hour workweek. The fellow will be exposed to a full range of editorial duties at WTTW News. Opportunities could include: field producing (setting up and shooting interviews and b-roll); producing segments (identifying guests, conducting pre-interviews, cutting video drop-ins); research; working with correspondents, hosts, and other producers; original reporting for the website; and the creation of interactive features using traditional and new media storytelling elements. McCarter Family fellowships will be offered to individuals from under-represented communities. Applicants must also be recent college graduates who have been out of school 12 months or less who seek to build their skills in order to enter the journalism and/or media production field.
