Pay This position is a non exempt position at pay grade 112. Attendance Rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed. Who May Apply? All persons legally authorized to work in the United States Overview The Journeyman Electrician performs skilled electrical work in construction, installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures at City facilities and properties including City dams, marina, tennis courts and parks. They are responsible for performing tasks in accord with established standards and codes of the Electrician trade at the Journeyman level. They will provide assistance to others crafts on electrical components of related building systems (HVAC, environmental, water supply, fire suppression, etc) Responsibilities Performs troubleshooting operations by diagnosing malfunctioning apparatus (transformers, motors, lighting fixtures, fuses, panels, etc) replacing and repairing equipment following local and state electrical codes and the National Electric codes and restoring power failures Provides diagnostic services, repair and replacement valves, pumps, controls, sensors and motors in environmental, electrical and utility service systems Maintains electrical wiring, switch gear, transformers, distribution and control systems in the City facilities in accordance with Electrical code and manufacturers standards Provides construction and installation services for electrical requirements of modification, renovation and minor construction projects as assigned Maintains emergency generators and associated hardware; provides troubleshooting and installation services for UPS systems supporting data processing equipment Maintains security, personnel access and fire warning systems as assigned Installs, troubleshoots and repairs communication (telephone, radio) and computer communication systems wiring components in support of City operations Maintains portable electrical tools and fixed appliances (e.g refrigerators, ice makers) electrical systems and dryers, etc. as assigned Maintains high intensity and emergency lighting systems for buildings, parking lots, recreational facilities, water towers and other structures throughout the City Frequently requiring vertical lift bucket truck Drive City provided vehicles and equipment as required Utilize computer PC and software applications including MS Office, Internet Explorer and Maximo Procure through P-Card and assume responsibility of City owned materials Provides electrical support to other crafts and trades (e.g HVAC, Plumbing, Carpentry, Instrumentation, etc.) in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical components/ subsystems Performs preventative maintenance by periodically inspecting equipment to locate and correct problems prior to a power failure and advising management of condition of hazardous equipment and the need for repair to ensure a safe operation Provides new electrical systems installation by working with blueprints to replace worn out systems, adding wiring, and power outlets to electrical systems in office buildings, marina, parks and other municipal properties Provides information to management concerning the cost of installations and repairs needed; obtains estimates of required items for repairs to include total labor hours Essential function May be asked to perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Requires High School Diploma/ GED Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational or technical nature which may be obtained with (6) six months to (1) one year of advanced study or training Minimum of four (4) years of experience Journeyman Electrician License A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire Other Information: Benefits The City offers an excellent benefit package that includes: Texas Municipal Retirement System - TMRS is a required retirement plan for all full-time employees.
