Posting closes 4/26/2024 Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the installation maintenance and repair of the statewide Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) network and Land Mobile Radio (LMR) communication system as well as associated support facilities. Examples of Work The following examples are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. No attempt is made to be exhaustive. Related, similar, or other logical duties are performed as assigned. The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer. Install and construct ITS and LMR communications equipment and components including supporting infrastructure. Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair a variety of ITS, network and communications equipment using complex testing equipment and schematic diagrams. Repair copper-wired, fiber-optic and wireless communications systems related to ITS equipment. Respond to emergencies relating to problems and situations involving ITS and communication equipment outages and needs. Perform and document periodic checks and tests of assigned equipment. Maintain spare parts inventory and associated administrative paperwork. Install, maintain and perform on-site repair of mobile, fixed and portable two-way radio equipment. Minimum Requirements Education and experience: The educational equivalent to an associate's degree in electronics, information technology or related field OR the educational equivalent to a diploma from an accredited high school plus two years of directly related experience. Experience maintaining electronic communications equipment, computer networking, or ITS infrastructure desired. Knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Basic math skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Word, Excel and Outlook. Physical requirements: Demonstrated ability to climb radio antenna support towers and to perform necessary maintenance duties, such as antenna and transmission line removal and installation, and replacement of bulbs in beacon lights at a height of 200 feet or more above ground level. Demonstrated ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation. Working conditions: Frequent in-state travel. Ability to perform assigned duties in all types of weather as well as other work conditions, e. g. noise, dust and fumes. Ability to work in remote locations, but also along the highway/interstate routes with heavy traffic. Licenses, registrations and certifications: Valid driver's license. FCC Radio-Telephone License or certification by either National Association of Radio and Telecommunications Engineers (NARTE) or International Society of Certified Electronic Technicians (ISCET) preferred.
