Description: The Intermittent Hospitalist position at this facility entails providing comprehensive healthcare services to inpatients and emergency patients. This role also involves acting as a community liaison and regional medical center for various communities and clinics throughout Southeast Alaska. The position requires high-level decision-making abilities for patients of all ages, including neonates to adults, with medical, psychiatric, and obstetrical concerns.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities:
  • Deliver comprehensive medical care across various departments, including Emergency Room, Inpatient, ICU, and OB/Nursery, with 24-hour OB and Surgical backup.
  • Offer obstetrical care to L&D patients as needed, based on qualifications.
  • Perform necessary procedures based on clinical analysis of patient needs, including but not limited to Central Lines, Paracentesis, and Point of Care Ultrasound.
  • Serve as a consultative liaison via phone or video to village healthcare providers, local residential programs, and accept transfers from referring sites across Southeast Alaska.
  • Participate in medical staff functions, including quality assurance reviews, and discussion of cases and outcomes in monthly departmental meetings.
  • Utilize Cerner EMR for all patient documentation and ordering.
  • Abide by medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations, as well as clinical services policies and procedures.
Education/Experience:
  • M.D. or D.O. degree with satisfactory completion of an accredited Family Practice, Medicine/Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine residency.
  • Board certification or eligibility.
  • Alaska Medical License issued by the Alaska State Medical Board.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) certifications (if applicable).
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) required within 6 months of starting.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification strongly desired.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to thrive in a group practice environment with regular discussions of patient care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based allopathic theories and therapies.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Efficient ordering of diagnostic tests.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other physicians.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and grow within the unique challenges and rewards of remote rural medicine.
Required Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association
  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine - Alaska State Medical Board
  • Medical Doctor - State of Alaska - Alaska State Medical Board
  • Physician License - State of Alaska - Alaska State Medical Board
