Primary Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, the Instructional Coach will provide research-based coaching that helps guide schools towards sustainable school improvement. The Instructional Coach will provide professional development services that include reflective collegial cycle of inquiry, data analysis, high functioning PLCs, and instructional leadership through alignment of curriculum and instruction to TEKS. Coaches will spend the majority of their time working in classrooms with teachers providing professional development that will include, but is not limited to, in class coaching, observing, modeling of instructional strategies, guiding teachers in assessing student work, and developing instructional plans with teams of teachers or as individuals.

The Instructional Coach advocates for, facilitates, and supports the work of the teacher but will not perform supervision or evaluation. The role of an Instructional Coach is separate and apart from the evaluative role of the principal or supervisor of the teacher. The Instructional Coach must have a strong knowledge and understanding of cognitive coaching, instructional techniques/strategies and must be ready to coach, model, and /or train all staff members, regardless of content area.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Master's degree in educational administration or curriculum and instruction preferred

Valid Texas Teaching Certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of current educational research in the use of technology to enhance instruction, learning styles, teaching techniques and student engagement.

Possesses fluency with multiple methods of instructional delivery and student assessment.

Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish preferred

Experience:

Three -five years of experience as a classroom teacher in CORE content area (relative to level for which you are applying)

Instructional or grade level leadership role

Experience supporting dual language programs

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Curriculum and Instruction
  1. Establishes and monitors curricular scope and sequence.
  2. Serves as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve achievement for all students.
  3. Assists teachers in preparation for best practice classroom instruction.
  4. Assists teachers in building an interactive classroom environment focused on the delivery of the core curriculum, to include the use of technology in the teaching-learning process.
  5. Provides updates to ensure that all are knowledgeable about student achievement progress, program components, TEKS and diagnostic/progress monitoring tools.
  6. Ensures tight alignment between the taught and tested curriculum.

School or Organization Improvement
  1. Assists principal and grade/department chairs in the analysis of assessment data and the setting of both short-term and long-term instructional goals.
  2. Facilitates collaborative meetings with district and campus stakeholders to help analyze and utilize data from a variety of sources to improve student achievement.
  3. Assists the Assistant Superintendent in the development and revision of curriculum-based benchmarks and other district assessments based on data from a variety of sources.
  4. Facilitates the evaluation of programs.

Instructional Personnel Support
  1. Demonstrates lessons for teachers to model best instructional practices and ensure the fidelity of specific program implementation and intervention support.
  2. Facilitate/support teachers in effective lesson design and instructional delivery through lesson plan development.
  3. Support teachers in understanding the depth and complexity of the standards to be taught and aligning the standards to highly engaging student activities.

Professional Learning
  1. Provides timely, data-driven, on-going staff development to guide classroom instruction.
  2. Provides district-wide staff development in response to needs identified through data analysis.
  3. Participates in professional development opportunities to remain current on trends and best practices in education.

Other
  1. Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  2. Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior. Serve as a role model for all campus
  3. Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business.
  4. Other duties as assigned.
