This posting will close at 5 pm on Monday, April 22, 2024 Location: Neil Armstrong Middle School Hours: 6.5 hours per day Start date: As soon as possible Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred Job Classification: Instructional Services Job Title: Instructional Assistant - Student Health Aide POSITION SUMMARY The job of "Instructional Assistant - Student Health Aide" is done under the direct or indirect supervision of the district nurse and is responsible for administering to the health concerns of students in assigned location(s). This position also assists the district nurse with health management plan development, distribution and implementation and communicates with staff and parents as needed. Employees in this classification do not supervise others. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains accurate health records of students and care provided in the assigned health room Documents all health care provided to students in a timely manner Assists district nurse with health management plan development, distribution and implementation Provides immediate health care to students in case of injury or sudden illness. Alerts district nurse in the case of outbreak of diseases and checks immune suppressed students' class schedule for possible exposure Attends in-services, workshops and meetings as directed Provides medications to students according to Oregon State Law and District Board Policy and document as directed by district nurse Practices Standard Precautions Manages and organizes medical supplies in health room(s) across the district Provides care for students with special physical needs after receiving training and under the direction of the district nurse, including, but not limited to catheterization, insulin administration, and gastrostomy tube feedings Assists with obtaining and organizing Medical Authorization and Self Carry Medication forms. Assists district nurse with organizing information related to medical conditions and medications prior to field trips Maintains required certifications OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES Participates in various meetings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities Maintains consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position Performs other duties as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School diploma or equivalent; 72 quarter hours of accredited college or equivalent education or District HQ Assessment. Two years of post-secondary education, an associate's (or higher) degree, Certified Nursing Assistant licence, Medical Assistant certification, or District approved academic assessment, may be required. Experience: Prior job related experience paid or volunteer with school age children. Medical experience preferred. Skills: Operate a computer, office machines, telephone and other technology equipment. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organization skills. Skills to perform instructional activities, communicate with parents, students, staff and community, basic arithmetic calculations, operate standard office equipment, use English in verbal and written form, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling, and perform basic clerical functions. Knowledge: Knowledge of principles of child development, instructional processes. General knowledge of first aid and basic medical conditions, symptoms and diseases. Abilities: Work harmoniously with others. Work and communicate effectively with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job. Work independently without supervision, and with minimum oral/written instructions. Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations and policies. Ability to rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations. Significant physical abilities include lifting/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity, moving to various locations within the classroom and school. Continuing Education/Training Clearances: Pre-employment criminal justice fingerprint clearance and criminal background check. Initiate Hepatitis B immunization series or sign waiver within one month of employment. Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
