The University of Maryland School of Social Work has an exciting opportunity for an Infant and Toddler Childcare Specialist (Community Outreach Coordinator) to join their Family Support Center team. This position will work closely with the Child Development Specialist to implement aspects of early childhood program development, supervise children, create engaging and exciting lesson plans, and partner with families to achieve developmental goals within the Family Support Center, located in the Promise Heights footprint of Upton/Druid Heights Baltimore City neighborhood. This position will collaborate closely with the sponsoring agency, Maryland Family Network (MFN), and will work under the supervision of The Center for Restorative Change at the University of Maryland Baltimore. The Family Support Center will offer an opportunity to expand and strengthen the department's early childhood programming by co-locating integral services for expectant and parenting families of children ages 0 to 48 months and collaborate with multi-generational caregivers to support the safety, stability, healing and growth of children and families. The individual and family-based services will include addressing families' emergency financial needs, space for education and teaching on caregiving practices and techniques, therapeutic services for children and families, and case management services to support families with navigating systems to address their physical health, social and emotional well-being. The Family Support Center will be housed within The Center for Restorative Change's suite of programs and initiatives including Family Connections Baltimore, B'more for Healthy Babies, Promise Heights, the Positive School Center and the Social Work Community Outreach Service. Essential Functions: Support and educate parents in a positive, non-judgmental manner. Effectively communicate with parents and caregivers. Collaborate with center team to create and execute weekly recruitment and outreach plans. Model appropriate interaction with young children and parents. Effectively enhance the development of children. Create and implement engaging and exciting lesson plans for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Assist with the care, safety, and well-being of all children in care. Conduct and record daily observations of children in the center. Assist with the implementation of a developmentally appropriate program for infants and toddlers. Attend training required by sponsoring agency and MFN. Provide informal parenting education to participants in the Center. Participate in training classes pertaining to child development, children at risk, special needs, etc. to secure yearly CEU requirements. Perform other duties as assigned. Education: High-school diploma or GED required. Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development preferred. Experience: Four (4) years in community outreach, health care, research, and/or social services, two (2) years of which involved lead worker responsibility providing guidance and training over other staff. Must have current medical evaluation, including a tuberculosis screen within 6 months before the individual begins work in the Center. Preferred Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of supervised classroom experience with children aged zero through three years. Licensure/Certification: Must have 90-hour Childcare Certificate combined with 45-hour Infant-Toddler Certificate. Infant/Toddler CDA acceptable in lieu of 45-hour Infant Toddler Certificate. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent planning and organizing skills, with a strong understanding of lesson plan development and curriculum implementation. Ability to lift 50 lbs. and get up and down off floor. Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and anti-oppression. Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. A basic understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities. Ability to maintain records and reports on young children and families. Ability to reinforce health and safety standards in the child development room. Knowledge and ability to maintain an appropriate environment for infants and toddlers. Ability to use a range of technology and tools, including but not limited to Microsoft Office. Desire to work with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Possess a strong understanding of modeling/teaching parents ways to nurture and interact with their child. Ability to maintain respect for the confidentiality of information divulged by or on behalf of participants.
