Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor and reporting to the Plant Manager, perform required mechanical functions for; disassembly, cleaning, inspection, painting, assembly and packaging of transit components to specifications, while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to reassemble various gearbox styles.
  • Be cross trained and proficient in several production processes.
  • Work with Engineering to identify and develop efficient fixtures for disassembly and reassembly.
  • Dimensional inspection, documentation and assembly of transit wheel set assemblies and their components.
  • Advanced component assembly and pressing operations.
  • Ability to test requalified or manufactured product to specifications.
  • Perform magnetic particle and ultrasonic inspection (if certified).
  • Disassemble transit wheel set assemblies and their components, using proper fixtures, mechanical devices and hydraulic presses.
  • Operate hand and power tools as required to perform job assignments.
  • Operate powered industrial forklift and crane hoists to transfer and position materials as needed.
  • Complete work assignments and associated reports from work order packets containing necessary procedural documents or manuals, bill of materials, inspection documents, prints and or illustrations
  • Fill out customer qualifying hold tags (CQH) for material which cannot be requalified Perform component inspection both visually and with measuring instruments and have the ability to verify calibration of instruments and tools.
  • Band, wrap and package material for shipments.
  • Fill out non-conforming material reports (NCMR) and performing preventative maintenance/repairs to equipment.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and well organized work area. Participate in Safety meetings and activities and 6S activities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED Basic mechanical assemble experience or training certification preferred.
  • Basic mathematical skills, ability to read, understand and interpret prints, experience with measuring instruments, experience completing reports and documentation, read and understand written directions and procedures.
  • Machine shop environment background preferred.
  • Self-motivated and willing to work with minimal supervision.
  • Have sound trouble shooting and problem solving skills.
Job Related Activities
Standing, sitting, walking, working inside and outside, reach above, at and below shoulder, climb ladder and stairs, bend over/squat, walk on uneven ground, kneel, sit down, stretch, sweep, ride/drive, twist, simple grasping, power grasping, hand/wrist twisting and carrying/lifting repair parts (50 pounds)

Equipment Operation
Miscellaneous hand and power tools, parts washer, saws, drills, drill press, hydraulic presses, mechanical fixtures, induction heaters, overhead crane, crane hoists and measuring devices.
