Mechanic B General Job Function Performs general repairs and maintenance to plant and equipment, as directed by work orders, inspection list or maintenance supervision.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities: These duties directly and substantially serve to achieve the purpose of the position.
- Trains less experienced employees as required.
- Assists with installations, operates, maintains, checks, and assists in troubleshooting all types of A/C and D/C electrical equipment. Assists in installing, troubleshooting, and repairing solid state and electronic equipment.
- Installs, operates, maintains, and checks all types of mechanical equipment as directed.
- Performs preventive maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and repairs as indicated on the formal computerized maintenance program. Completes work orders and assigned work as directed by supervisor or lead.
- Completes all reports and paperwork as required for company record keeping.
- Troubleshoots and repairs food processing plant and industrial machinery.
- Assists in installing and repairing electrical conduits, cables, piping, and tubing, including all necessary connection controls and grounding as directed.
- Monitors and ensures compliance to the food safety program requirements.
- Is accountable for activities performed that will risk product safety.
- Operates mobile lift truck and hoisting equipment in the performance of maintenance work.
- Cleans and preserves all repaired equipment and building as directed.
- Performs all PM and repair working accordance with AIB and GMP principals and company plant policy.
- Possesses some knowledge of lubricants for all types of machines and performs necessary lubrication of production machinery as directed looking up parts in computer.
- Helps maintain spare parts inventory for plant as directed by checking out parts from parts mezzanine, using parts procedure, and restocking shelves as directed.

- C omplete tasks indicated on work orders, inspections and A.I.B. checklists as directed by supervisor.
- Keeps work area clean. Perform cleaning of all work areas.
- Assists in the training of new personnel.
- Provides suggestions to improve process, procedures, and department in support of company and departmental goals.
- Follows Company, GMP and Safety policies to ensure compliance with the HACCP program and AIB gold standard.
- Follows all food safety principles and legal requirements.
- Maintains a positive and constructive work environment within the department as well as with other departments and promotes teamwork.
- Works in a safe manner, observing all safety requirements.
- Participates in monthly departmental meetings.
- Must work various shifts and hours including holidays and weekends.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Physical Activities Statement: The following constitute the minimal physical requirements a Lead Person should be able to perform during the course of the workday.
- Able to withstand different climates-including high temperatures.
- Must be able to continuously Lift, pull and push at least 50 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to bend, grasp, push and pull.
- Be on his/her feet for long periods of time.
- Able to walk long distances.
- Kneel, bend, grab, reach, pinch, fold, pick, and type.
- Be able to climb ladders.
- Able to work in dusty, noisy, and small work areas.
- Able to wear safety equipment for prolonged periods of time (safety glasses, respirators, safety gloves, aprons, ear plugs, etc.).
- Able to work in temperatures of 40 to 105 F.
Education & Experience - HS or GED is required
- 2-4 years of experience in a mechanic role. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above.
- Knowledge of industrial machinery
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems
- Knowledge of air systems
- Ability to read semi-complex diagrams and assist in troubleshooting systems. Must read and understand electrical and mechanical blueprints, use simple shop math and possess knowledge of local, state and federal codes.
- Knowledge of arc welding equipment
- Knowledge of gas cutting equipment
- Knowledge of power tools such as drill presses, cut off saws and portable table tools.
