ABOUT THE ROLE

CIIS seeks an HR Director that is strongly aligned with our Mission, Vision, and the 7 Commitments and has a strong understanding and value of higher education.

Under the direction of the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Human Resources Director is responsible for overseeing several areas of HR, including employee relations, policy development, records maintenance, HRIS, and employee engagement. There will initially be four direct reports that include: a part-time HR Manager, an Academic HR Coordinator, a Staff HR Coordinator, and an HR Assistant.

CIIS has undergone a transition in HR staff since the pandemic. Things are stabilizing but we seek a strong leader with knowledge of higher education to help continue the stabilization, implement processes and procedures and move the department forward.


SUMMARY

As the HR Director, you will be responsible for guiding a customer-oriented human resources department and assisting in the development of clear processes and procedures. The individual selected for this position must have a strong understanding of local, state, federal, and some international laws and regulations related to employment. They must be flexible while maintaining compliance, and clearly discern common practices from laws and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The HR Director will:

  • Have a consistent eye toward and promote a work culture that promotes equity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Have the strength and fortitude to address difficult issues with grace and compassion.
  • Promote an open and honest culture of collegiality within HR and throughout the university.
  • Be a model for the delivery of exemplary customer service, innovation, and quality services to faculty, staff, employees and the community.
  • Develop and clearly articulate HR policies, procedures, and employment related agreements.
  • Interpret and uphold applicable laws and regulations to staff, faculty, and students as necessary.
  • Provide direction to executive, managerial, academic, technical, and clerical staff regarding various human resources activities.
  • Provide accurate and consistent application of Title IX, FERPA, and other applicable regulations associated with private higher education institutions and human resources requirements across the Institute.
  • Evaluate and assess the Institute's Human Resources Information System (HRIS) needs to ensure that personnel actions are updated, reporting is accurate and timely, periodic maintenance is conducted, and troubleshooting is conducted, as necessary.
  • Maintain the information on Human Resources portal (CIIS Connect)


Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • This position requires excellent interpersonal, writing, oral communication, and presentation skills; strong analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills; proficiency in software applications and ability to work effectively with diverse groups of faculty, staff, and students.
  • An alignment with the Mission and Seven Commitments is required.
  • Experience working in a educational environment.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of HR generalist experience, preferably at least three years in a higher education environment.
  • 3+ years of management experience; not necessarily in human resources.
  • An ability to hold and resolve conflict for the best results of all parties.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, local regulatory labor laws required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in training and organizational development.
  • SHRM Certification or equivalent HRM certification preferred.
  • Experience with HRIS/HCM/Payroll systems, and a willingness to learn new technologies and own outcomes required.
  • Experience administering benefits (health, workers' compensation, unemployment, 401K, etc)

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

Occasional work performed alone with ability to work remotely from time-to-time. Collaboration and constant work around and with other people.


PHYSICAL ABILITIES

This position requires attention to detail, good memory, ability to work under deadline pressure, sitting and standing for long periods of time, oral and written communication, keyboarding for significant portions of the workday, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching, patience, and tact to perform the essential functions.

WAGES AND BENEFITS

Salary: $120,000 - $130,000 DOE

  • Working Conditions - Duties are primarily performed in an office environment at a desk or computer terminal, typically Monday through Friday.

If your job requires driving on behalf of CIIS you will be required to provide proof of a valid driver's license.
