JOB SUMMARY


Mid-sized, regional firm with 200 people is seeking a self-motivated, energetic Director of Human Resources with 10+ years of legal industry experience. The ideal candidate will be well-rounded and will have experience in all areas of HR including benefits administration, payroll, employee relations, training, performance management, orientation, exit interviews, policy implementation, recruitment and retention, and compliance.
The position will report to the Managing Partner and oversee an HR team.


RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Work with Managing Partner, Executive Committee and department heads in the strategic planning and implementation of Firm policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate daily secretarial assignments within practice groups; work closely with IT department on training needs; handle all aspects of employee relations matters including performance issues.

  • Oversee all new-hire orientations.

  • Provide guidance on, and interpretation of, workplace issues that require high confidentiality and be able to deal with sensitive issues.

  • Maintain and administer HRIS system, compile reports as needed.

  • Develop employee training programs and initiatives.

  • Monitor (including reviewing and approving) employee time and attendance in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws; process payroll.

  • Handle disciplinary matters through and including termination of employees.

  • Oversee and administer employee performance evaluation process including annual reviews and compensation adjustments.

  • Manage benefits administration process, including working with insurance vendors on plan design, conduct open enrollment, assist with resolution of claims, and reconcile invoices.

  • Administer all firm benefits plans including medical, short-term disability, long-term disability, FMLA, 401k retirement plan.

  • Work with attorneys/department heads to forecast staffing needs; responsible for recruitment and selection of attorneys and staff.

  • Participate in the development of department goals, objectives and procedures.

  • Handle departmental budget including forecasting, preparing department budget. and tracking and monitoring expenses.

  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.


ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:



  • Demonstrate strong knowledge in all areas of HR including substantive knowledge of industry best practices and trends.

  • Experience in administering regulatory compliance; must have a solid knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal labor and employment laws;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills; must be able to communicate sensitive, complex and detailed information regarding all HR matters to firm employees tactfully and appropriately.

  • Candidate should be extremely organized with a strong attention to detail. Must be able to handle multiple priorities and competing deadlines, and possess the skills necessary to prioritize effectively.

  • Highest level of commitment to confidentiality and discretion; must possess excellent judgment.

  • Strong technological skills with the ability to learn new software and operating systems.

  • Proven ability to effectively lead, develop, and implement projects, processes and change management.


EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/JOB EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:



  • Bachelors degree required

  • Advanced degree and/or professional HR certification a plus

  • 5-7 years relevant human resources management experience, preferably in a law firm environment.
