This is a Salem Housing Authority position, which is a separate employer from the City of Salem. What you will do: The Maintenance Technician is an essential part of the Salem Housing Authority by keeping our building systems within housing facilities running. As a Maintenance Technician you will schedule and perform routine preventative and emergency maintenance and service, including grounds maintenance and landscape. You will use your repair expertise to quickly respond to internal services calls regarding malfunctioning equipment, work orders for machine and equipment replacement, and complete equipment maintenance and repairs. The successful candidate for this position will have considerable knowledge and understanding of the function and operation of building maintenance, performing general maintenance for housing properties. The successful candidate for this position will have experience problem-solving, responding to issues efficiently and completing projects within anticipated deadlines with minimum supervision. This position may be assigned to work in Permanent Supportive Housing that requires patience, compassion and understanding as the Housing Authority works with community partners to help serve our most vulnerable population that may have been previously unhoused. You will communicate effectively and provide information to tenants and co-workers regarding ground and building maintenance procedures. The Maintenance Technician may occasionally act in a lead role directing the job site tasks of other maintenance mechanics, volunteers, or vocational rehabilitation trainees. Additional information on job responsibilities: Conduct and document regular, annual, inspections of housing units and buildings. Install doors and trim. Perform semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and constructions activities. Use a variety of power and hand tools to perform job functions. Conduct repairs to heating systems, light electrical systems, mechanical, and ventilation systems, plumbing repairs, and other mechanical systems. Planning, decision making, and problem-solving skills. Perform emergency repairs on various types of machinery, appliance repair, including replace worn or damaged parts in a timely manner. Sheetrock repair. HVAC repair. Painting. Respond to work orders concerning service, modification, or installation of machinery. Maintain, repair, and operate fire & life safety systems, pumps and other electrical controls and systems in accordance with American Standards of Mechanical Engineers. Work and communicate with diverse groups/population in an effective and supportive fashion. Lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects with or without accommodation. Perform other essential work duties as required. Work Schedule: The work schedule for this position is typically Monday- Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This position may work after-hours to support a 24/7 operations, as well as some standby, overtime, weekend shifts and/or holidays. What are the minimum qualifications? Must pass the pre-employment background check. Must possess a valid Oregon Class C driver license and the ability to meet the Salem Housing Authority's driving standards. High school diploma or GED, and three (3) years of experience in building grounds maintenance and landscaping and residential building maintenance in areas such as painting, carpentry, plumbing or masonry, or any equivalent combination of experience or training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities. Preferred Qualifications (Not required to apply): Bilingual skills preferred.
