Responsibilities Histotechnician Performs, evaluates, records and reports histological laboratory tests used in the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of patients on a variety of body fluids, tissues and biologic specimens. Recognizes problems and/or potential for problems within the assigned section regarding instruments, computers, and inventories. Displays sound, supportive and independent judgement to resolve issues equitably. Compensation for the role is $42.35 - $56.98 hourly. Qualifications Histotechnician Minimum Education: A.A.S. degree in Medical Technology or related field. H.S. diploma accepted only with NYS license (Grandparented through licensure pathway). Minimum Experience: Minimum of recent one (1) year work experience and/or training in Histology preferred but new graduates of approved Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or Histological Technician (HT) Programs will be considered. Basic computer skills required. Skilled in histology techniques. Good communication practices. Required Certification/Registration: Licensed by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Certified Histology (or Clinical Laboratory) Technician. ASCP certification preferred. Histotechnologist Minimum Education: B.A./B.S. Degree in medical technology or related science. Minimum Experience: Minimum of recent one (1) year work experience and/or training in Histology preferred but new graduates of approved Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or Histological Technician (HT) Programs will be considered. Basic computer skills required. Skilled in histology techniques. Good communication practices. Charge Technologist: Six years (6) of experience at NYS Medical Laboratory Technologist level with two of those years in assigned section. Required Certification/Registration: Licensed by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Certified Histology Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technologist. ASCP certification preferred. If not licensed, NYS permit required within two months of hire, NYS MT license required within one year of permit issuance. Once a Permit has been obtained, candidate may verify tests in areas that competency has been completed. Physical Requirements: Walking and standing, most of the day. Reaches for, lifts and carries light to moderately heavy equipment and supplies. Visual acuity and color discrimination is required. Ability to communicate effectively and to comprehend conversation. Must have manual dexterity and hand-to-eye coordination to handle and assist with instruments, slides, test tubes and other laboratory equipment .Capable of working long hours at varied times during the day or night. Alertness required during all phases.
