Description Position reports to the Histology Lab Section Supervisor. Responsible for performing all Histology functions and procedures for all patient specimens that include responding to frozen sections, immunostaining and special staining by both automated and manual methods. Processes tissues for microscopic examination. Operates instrumentation, prepares reagents and maintains records according to established policies and procedures. Communicates with nursing and physicians regarding patient specimens and results. Qualifications Education: AS degree in Histology or related science required. Prefer BS/BA degree in Histology or related science. Experience/Skills: Minimum one year experience in Histology in Hospital laboratory setting. Position requires exercise of independent judgment with minimum degree of supervision. Work may involve testing procedures which require high degree of theoretical knowledge and technical expertise in licensed area. Other required abilities include: entering and retrieving data from Laboratory Information System, excellent oral and written communication skills, interaction with the public and medical/nursing personnel, making decisions under pressure, handling multiple priorities, and managing stress appropriately. Licenses/Certificates: Current State of Florida Laboratory Technologist License in Histology specialty.
