Prepares histologic slides from tissue section. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Prepares histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by the Pathologist. Assures that each specimen is properly identified upon receipt and throughout processing. Cuts and stains frozen sections and correctly labels, stores and disposes of specimens. Properly logs and maintains records and statistics of all specimens. Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI). MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Knowledge of histology tests and procedures. Computer skills. The ability to accurately process, cut, and embed tissue samples. Basic knowledge of immunohisto chemical staining. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Route 1: Successful completion or a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last 5 years; or Route 2: At least 60 semester hours of academic credit for a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology & chemistry. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: N/A REQUIRED LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as a Histotechnologist.
