The Histology Assistantposition assists the pathologist during the gross processing of surgical specimens. Responsibilities: + Accurately coverslips and labels prepared slides, matches them to working drafts and arranges them for screening by the cytologists + Enters patient and specimen information into the Pathology Information system + Enters patient charges into the Hospital Information system + Performs maintenance of tissue processing instrument + Performs rapid H & E and Diff-quik staining on tissue specimen slides + Prepares smears and cytospins from body fluid specimens in accordance with established procedures + Prepares specimens by Frozen Section technique + Prepares tissue specimens for gross examination + Procures specimens from the OR, Special Procedures, and Same Day Surgery areas of the hospital + Responsible for filing slides in accordance with established procedure + Responsible for staining of all cytology slices using the modified Pap Stain procedure + Responsible for the daily rotation and filtration of stains, alcohol, and xylene + Verified that required information has been provided on the requisitions and that the specimen has been properly submitted, fixed and labeled per the patient ID policy + Performs all other duties as assigned Requirements: + High School diploma or equivalent required + Classes in biology and related sciences preferred Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, our employees make the difference.
