By joining our Campbell County Unit as a Highway Technician II, you'll perform advanced level work of roadway highway maintenance and maintenance or roadside and construction operations in Campbell County. Holders of this Job Title will complete tasks such as: Operate complex equipment in advanced level of roadway maintenance or construction operations. Resurfacing projects, inspections, and reviewing project costs, scheduling. Checks estimates. Pavement Markings, proper installation of routine traffic control. Records field data and calculations. Follow safety processes and performs other duties as assigned. Holders of this job will obtain the following skills: Quality Assurance Computer Skills Snow and ice duties and maintaining snow and ice policies. Traffic control Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position: Supervising a crew, multi-tasking, and computer skills. Snow and ice plowing skills. Operating heavy equipment. Must be able to respond to emergencies. Must be able to work extended hours or outside during inclement weather. Minimum Requirements EDUCATION: High school graduate. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have eight years of construction or highway maintenance experience. Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering will substitute for four (4) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program will substitute for six (6) years of highway related experience in construction or maintenance. College coursework related to any of these fields will substitute for experience on a year for year basis. Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement to qualify for employment in this job classification. The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Level 3 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Working Conditions Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather. Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
