Highway Maintenance Worker

Job Responsibilities Performs skilled labor and excavator operation in setting, driving, and cutting of treated timber and steel piles. Responsible for setting concrete caps and bridge deck slabs. Performs skilled labor and backhoe operation in grading, constructing catch basins, setting forms, and pouring and finishing concrete for bridge caps, sidewalks, and curb and gutter. Operates lowboy truck tractor as necessary to transport the crane, materials, and/or other equipment where needed. Operates various electric, gasoline, and air-powered tools used for bridge construction and maintenance activities. Performs manual labor while constructing handrails, placing rip-rap, attaching bridge hardware, cleaning bridge decks, and other associated maintenance activities. Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, may include extended hours and/or 12 hour shifts. THIS IS A RE-ADVERTISEMENT. PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT RE-APPLY. Minimum and Additional Requirements One (1) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.Employee must be able to work outside and in inclement weather. Employee must be able to meet the following physical demands: ability to lift 100lbs, carrying, attendance, cleaning, climbing, crawling, driving, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, removing, sitting, speaking, squatting, standing, twisting, walking and writing.
