Description/Summary

SUMMARY:
The purpose of this full time position is to perform a variety of road maintenance and repair operations for the Green County Highway Department. The position will be based out of the Broadhead Shop, located at th Street Brodhead.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to the following:
  • Operate road maintenance, construction and repair vehicles and equipment including trucks, rollers, water trucks, front end loaders, tractors, mowers, brush chippers, compressors, semi-tractor and trailer, portable traffic signals, pavement saws, chain saw, cement mixer, compactor, loaders, jackhammer, weed trimmers, drills, cutting torch, snow plow.
  • Patrol assigned roads and repair broken pavement and potholes.
  • Shore up road shoulders with additional gravel.
  • Inspect and clean culverts and drains.
  • Remove ice and snow. Apply salt and sand as assigned and needed.
  • Replace and repair road signs, guardrails and other roadway markers.
  • Mow right-of-way. Trim and remove brush.
  • Pick up debris and trash. Remove roadway obstructions.
  • May direct traffic as needed.
  • Spray noxious weeds within right-of-way.
  • Exposure to hazardous winter driving conditions and highway traffic.
  • Some overtime, weekend and holiday work required.
  • And such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Class A Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License with H and N endorsements and no air brake restrictions required upon hire.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
