About the Position
This is a general posting that will be used to generate an applicant pool for secondary summer school teaching positions. Teachers will be expected on-site at 7:45 AM to support student arrival and stay until 12:15 PM for student departure, but it is not in-person learning. What will be available is a "Drop-In Lab" for students (grades 9-12) to receive help from teachers on their online-course they are taking with Graduation Alliance in the following areas: English, Social Studies, Math, Science, and PE/Health. While applications will be accepted from both internal and external applicants, preference will be given to internal applicants. A valid Washington State Teaching Certificate is required for these positions.

Approximately 5 positions will be available.

Summer School Teacher Responsibilities
The Summer School Teacher will act as a support for students participating in the summer session. Duties include:
  • Attend required orientation and training
  • Implement summer curriculum, instruction, and assessment program
  • Monitoring student progress
    • Helping students set daily goals for coursework
    • Following through with students to ensure they have met daily goals
  • Responding promptly to student questions
  • Reading and responding to email frequently
  • Monitoring assessments
  • Communicating with families and students
  • Making phone or email contact with students and families when students are not making adequate progress or have not started a course they are enrolled in
  • Initiate occasional meetings with small groups of students as needed
  • Maintaining consistent office hours for students and families
  • Other job duties as needed

Key Information/Dates
  • Staff Orientation and Training July 1-3, 2024 (one of these days, Exact date TBD). (Training will take place at Meadowdale High School in varying degrees based on prior experience and training.)
  • Summer School session runs July 8, 2024 - July 25, 2024 (M-Th, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM).

Salary
Hourly position paid via timesheet: $30.80 per hour, 4.5 hours a day for student support (there may be a need for part-time teaching) and $26.76 per hour for required training.

Required Qualifications
Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
