SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY: The IPS high ability coach will support the district's high ability program and the academic vision of Harshman Middle School or Sidener Academy. This is done by providing leadership in the area of high ability education. The high ability coach will provide leadership at their respective building to assist teachers and other school staff in meeting the needs of high ability students. WHAT YOU'LL DO: The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like. Core Duties and Responsibilities Ensure instruction aligns with curricula demands and student needs Designs and facilitates training for teachers and other school staff Assesses the schools professional development needs Manage, analyze and utilize student data to drive student support Plans, schedules and facilitates teacher meetings focused on high ability best practices Develops and models master lessons Support the development of all teachers in understanding the high ability curriculum Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve student outcomes Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher's professional growth and students' success Assist in developing interventions and intervention plans for students who need additional support Develop plans to support and coach school staff on the development and implementation of effective strategies Disseminate information regarding high ability to appropriate sources (e.g. parents, teachers, students, administrators) Teach students in intervention groups or whole classes as needed Consult with school staff on students being considered for grade or subject acceleration Confers with principals and/or teachers on student evaluations as needed Consult with school staff to develop high ability students with alternative course work as needed Consult on the selection of supplemental equipment and supplies for the high ability program Performs additional school support duties as necessary Day In the Life" Overview On a regular day, as the High Ability Coach, you might: Review student data Meet with teachers, school leadership team and other school staff Provide instruction and/or enrichment to students Provide support to teachers and other school staff WHAT YOU'll BRING: SKILLS AND MINDSETS As an ideal candidate for this role, you will be able to achieve the following: In depth understanding of high ability curriculum and best practices Organizational and planning abilities Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups Remain informed of current educational developments related to high ability education Participates in continuing professional development seminars devoted to the advancement of high ability education EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Indiana teachers license Indiana High Ability/Gifted and Talented Endorsement 3-5 years teaching experience FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt ELIGIBILITY FOR REMOTE WORK: Not eligible for remote work PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
