Job Title: Heavy Haul Flatbed CDL Driver Colony Tire Corporation located in Edenton, NC, is currently seeking a full-time Heavy Haul Flatbed CDL Driver to join our team. Summary: As a Heavy Haul Flatbed CDL Truck Driver, you will be responsible for safely operating heavy-duty trucks to transport various oversized or overweight loads on flatbed trailers. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, exceptional driving skills, and a commitment to safety regulations. Key Responsibilities: Load Securement: Properly secure loads onto flatbed trailers using chains, straps, and binders to ensure they are stable and safe for transport. Vehicle Inspection: Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers to ensure they are in proper working condition and comply with safety regulations. Safe Driving: Operate heavy-duty trucks in a safe manner, adhering to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies. Route Planning: Plan routes carefully, considering factors such as load size, weight restrictions, road conditions, and traffic patterns to ensure timely and efficient delivery. Communication: Maintain clear communication with dispatchers, shippers, and receivers to coordinate pickup and delivery schedules and address any issues that may arise during transit. Documentation: Complete required paperwork accurately and timely, including bills of lading, logbooks, and other transportation-related documents. Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by representing the company professionally and courteously when interacting with clients and the public. Equipment Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance tasks on trucks and trailers, such as checking fluids, inspecting tires, and reporting any mechanical issues to maintenance personnel. Emergency Response: Handle emergencies and unexpected situations calmly and effectively, such as accidents, breakdowns, or adverse weather conditions, while prioritizing the safety of yourself and others. Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant transportation regulations, including weight limits, permit requirements, and hours-of-service regulations. Qualifications: CDL License: Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for operating heavy-duty trucks with flatbed trailers. Experience: 5 years previous experience as a flatbed truck driver, especially in heavy haul or oversize load transportation, is preferred. Safety Conscious: Strong commitment to safety protocols and regulations, with a clean driving record and knowledge of DOT regulations. Physical Stamina: Ability to handle physical demands of the job, including lifting, bending, and securing heavy loads. Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with customers and co-workers. Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail when securing loads and completing paperwork to ensure accuracy and compliance. Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities to address challenges that may arise during transit and make quick decisions in emergency situations. Flexibility: Willingness to work long hours, weekends, and travel overnight as needed to meet delivery schedules and customer demands. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the work environment can vary widely depending on factors such as weather conditions, terrain, and the type of load being transported. Much of the workday is spent behind the wheel of a heavy-duty truck, traveling on highways and rural roads. Drivers may encounter various road conditions, traffic congestion, and inclement weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, or wind. The job requires physical stamina to handle tasks such as securing heavy loads, performing vehicle inspection, and coupling trailers. Drivers may need to lift, bend, and exert themselves to ensure the safe transport of cargo.
