Job Details

Job Responsibilities:

The primary role of the Heavy Equipment Mechanic is to assess and diagnose repair needs for construction equipment, conducting specified repairs on machines owned by customers or the company as instructed.

Key Duties:

  • Utilize mechanical expertise, encompassing skills in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting, to perform repairs on packaging and production machines.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance activities and ensure the general upkeep of machines.
  • Identify faults in all machine systems, including electronics, hydraulics, power train, engines, and overall machine performance, using diagnostic tools such as laptop computers, gauges, and instruments.
  • Occasionally operate machines to determine repair needs or assess necessary repairs.
  • Disassemble and assemble machine components in accordance with manufacturer specifications, employing hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized tooling
  • Apply basic welding skills when required.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to execute necessary maintenance and service tasks.
  • Conduct research to identify repair needs and initiate part orders as necessary.
  • Handle the loading and unloading of equipment or components from customer-owned or common carrier vehicles.

Qualifications:

  • High school education or GED equivalent is a prerequisite. Additionally, completion of technical, vocational, trade school education, or an equivalent qualification is mandatory.
  • Possess two to five years of hands-on experience in troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment
  • Demonstrated experience in diagnosing equipment using laptop computers, gauges, and instruments across all machine systems, including electronics, hydraulics, powertrain, engines, and overall machine performance, is expected.
  • Acquired knowledge and experience in heavy equipment, mining equipment, systems, engines, and components is essential.
  • Proficiency in basic tools and tool usage, including fundamental welding skills, is required.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, exhibiting multitasking skills while maintaining a high level of organization.
  • Must showcase strong problem-solving abilities, mechanical aptitude, excellent communication skills (both oral and written), exemplary work habits, above-average proficiency in math, science, and English, the capability to read and interpret machine schematics, self-motivation, and a commitment to performing at the highest level.
  • Proficient in computer usage, with a preference for familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • MSHA certification or the ability to obtain MSHA certification is necessary.
