Job Summary
The Anchorage School District is seeking a skilled and experienced registered nurse to join our Healthcare Services team. The nurse will assist the director of Healthcare Services and nurse coordinator with programs offered by the Healthcare Services Department.

This position requires a valid Alaska educator certificate. The number of work days is based upon the AEA negotiated pay scale. Information on the pay scale can be found online on our Labor Relations Department website. This position's grade level, content area taught, and work site may change dependent upon student enrollment and district staffing needs. Positions that are 0.50 FTE to 1.0 FTE are associated with the Alaska Teachers' Retirement System (TRS), positions that are 0.40 to 0.49 FTE are associated with the Alaska Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Positions that are 0.39 FTE or less are not eligible for state retirement benefits.

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A minimum of a bachelor of science in nursing.
  2. A valid Alaska type C special services certificate.
  3. A current Alaska nursing license and BLS/First Aid training from the American Heart Association.
  4. A minimum of two years of experience as a school nurse.
  5. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  7. Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  8. Ability to work flexible hours and travel to different locations for training and vaccine administration.
  9. Ability to fill open substitute nurse positions as needed.
  10. Ability to obtain BLS instructor certification.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Works with department staff to coordinate new nurse hire orientations, including as needed, updates to the onboarding process.
  2. Coordinates and conducts BLS/First Aid trainings for eligible staff.
  3. Works with the Healthcare Services director, coordinator, and other leadership team members to review and update policies and guidelines.
  4. Develops educational materials such as handouts and presentations for clinics, students, and community events.
  5. Works with nursing students and faculty from the local universities and colleges to coordinate nursing students' schedules in our school setting.
  6. Works with school nurses and volunteers to support health screening compliance.
  7. Monitors and manages the inventory of vaccines for the children's program.
  8. Assists in coordination and scheduling of vaccine clinics.
  9. Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations for vaccine storage, handling, and administration.
  10. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of vaccine administration and tracking.
  11. Provides guidance and support to parents and staff regarding vaccine recommendations and schedules.
  12. Maintains a safe and clean environment for vaccine administration.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned at the discretion of the director of Healthcare Services, including but not limited to covering school nurse duties.

Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
