Job Description:

The health unit coordinator is responsible for various clerical duties relating to updating and organizing information on the nursing units and performs administrative and clinical support duties. The main ob jective is to keep the nursing stations running smoothly and operating in a timely and efficie nt manner . This is a chi eved by answering phones, coordinating appointments, escorts, and transportation for residents; coordinating work tasks for the nursing units among other departments, filing and scanning medical records, entering data into the resident EHR , reporting pertinent information to the immediate supervisor, and responding to inquiries from visitors and personnel.

KEY POSITION SPECIFIC ROLES & RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Answering the telephone professionally; directing calls to appropriate individuals and/or take messages.
  • Scan, file, fax and photocopy information as needed.
  • Coordinates all medical record preparation and delivery for outside inquiries.
  • Stock units with office supplies (WEEKLY) as well as preparing requisitions to maintain established inventories
  • Maintain accuracy of resident calendar, scheduling labs, appointments, transportation, ensuring paperwork ready to go when resident departs facility
  • Schedules lab pick ups
  • Fax designated results to physicians
  • Coordination of specific work tasks in the nursing department with other departments to ensure smooth and efficient workflow and communication.
  • Assists with gathering information for emergency transfers/discharges.
  • Gathers and organizes completed VS, orders, and required paperwork for MD rounds on scheduled days.
  • Preps admission charts for Nursing staff
  • Ensure that filing cabinets for all: CNA daily bath lists, CNA cheat sheets, stocking lists, staffing sheets, crash cart log sheets, admission/discharge/transfer packets in supply.
  • Ensures that all contact information for staff regarding dialysis schedules are current and accurate
  • Ensures resident safety with awareness in regard to those with wander guards and cognitive issues
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education
  • High School Dipolma or equivalent
Experience
  • Previous experience as an HUC is preferred.
