What you'll do The Health Systems Engineer (HSE) is a position targeting data-driven analytical workflow designers to partner with Clinical Service Line Leaders and Corporate Services. This position reports to the Systems Improvement Department, which leads the Bassett Leadership Operating System and Strategy Deployment Systems to drive a continuous and transformational improvement culture throughout the network. The HSE is positioned as an analytics champion, partnering with solution providers to utilize existing or newly developed analytical tools to derive and surface value insights for business leaders. Utilizing process engineering skills, the HSE will assist business leaders in analyzing and redesigning workflows, leading data-driven strategic initiatives, and organizing institutional key process standard work activities as identified by the annual operating plan. The HSE will be most closely partnered with the Informatics team, the Analytics solutions providers, Enterprise Project Managers, and Network Directors. The HSE will also lead or guide apprenticeships through a university-based co-op program, supplying student talent at Bassett to learn and grow in their capabilities. The HSE may be asked to lead programs for the organization until the program is ready to transition to operational leadership. The HSE is a vital analytical and design role focused on delivering insights to leaders and collaborating to design the future of healthcare delivery through the Bassett Healthcare Network. The person in this role should be a dynamic, energetic, data-driven improvement professional passionate about transforming healthcare and improving the lives of our patients and our communities. A core background demonstrating competency in key areas will be paramount to your success in this role, including but not limited to: leading change, evidence supported improvement techniques, data-driven process redesign, project management, innovation, coaching and partnering with leaders, and servant leadership. As a network role, this position will support a wide portfolio of work from organizational strategic initiatives through departmental improvement cycles. As a research institution, a core output from this role will be contribution to the improvement science and broader healthcare community. This role may be asked to contribute learnings to the broader healthcare community through abstracts, whitepapers, webinars, and conference presentations. Mentor and coach industry standard process improvement and project management skills. Establish timely and effective communication with staff to keep them aware of important corporate, divisional, and departmental information and to receive information and feedback from employees. Partners with Marketing and Communications as required to develop communication plans. Establish timely and effective communication with customers, peers, and supervisors to keep the apprised of operational and capital development initiatives and to effectively engage them in the planning process and the provision of services. Presents ad hoc status reports as necessary to keep customers and management conversant with both planned and atypical occurrences, unusual staffing situations, service disruptions and interruptions, system and building availability and accessibility. Improvement Initiatives Performs and facilitates workflow analysis as well as applies change management principles to utilize systems effectively, increase efficiency, and enhance end-user experience. Participates in project teams and committees for the purpose of implementation, evaluation and improvement of clinical system training and workflow design. Performs review and analysis of newly implemented systems and upgrades to maximize provider efficiency and ensure effective utilization of the system. Partner with Informatics teams to co-design human and technical workflows within initiatives. Documents processes and key work steps. Generates organizational learning artifacts that can be updated and assessed over time. Leader Training and Coaching Performs individualized and team-based coaching for leaders to improve leading change efforts. Develop and facilitate training to leaders for improvement science, new tool utilization, insight management. Individually coach leaders with change management and leading through data. Strategy Deployment System Aligns initiatives to the BHN Annual Operating Plan. Reports updates through Strategy Governance Councils and Continuous Financial Improvement. Analytics Partners Serves as partner to the Optum Analytics Liaisons for analytics intake, scope determination, and product management. Learns new analytical tools and develop managerial insights from reporting/data. Serves as an analytics partner for other 3rd party vendor platform analytics and develop methods to incorporate insights into workflow and management practices. Monitors accomplishment of agreed upon objectives at the network, regional, and departmental level; and where appropriate, institutes corrective actions, including reallocating resources, reprioritizing, and/or recommending modifications to established plans. Plans, develops and implements the programmatic budgets and assumes accountability to report variances and manage budgets until operational owners assume responsibility. Proactively participates in the planning, development and implementation of an effective capital development plan in close alignment with the annual operating plan, the annual budget, and organizational priorities. Reports financial outcomes of programmatic activities through Continuous Financial Improvement accounting process. Develops working relationships with partners across network to effect positive results. Regularly assesses opportunities to enhance system(s) performance. Connects with colleagues at affiliate sites to actualize potential for adoption of best practices and standardization. As appropriate, takes action to create a better experience for patients traversing the continuum of care. Measures deployment of resources and develops plans to optimize ROI. Develops action plans and completes them to improve customer and employee satisfaction. Submit abstracts on behalf of Bassett to contribute organizational learning around improvement sciences to the broader healthcare community Performs other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager. What we need from you Education: 4 year / Bachelor's Degree in Systems/Industrial Engineering, Management Engineering or similar discipline, required Experience: Minimum one year experience in leadership of programs or initiatives as reflected in credentials/resume with resulting impact, preferred Minimum one year experience with developing and distributing performance data, reports, dashboards and other key indicators, preferred License/Certification: Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification, preferred Skills: Leadership Accounting Data Management Computer Skills Analysis & Evaluation Problem Solving Communication Public Speaking Technical Skills Physical Requirements: Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 lbs of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
