Summary: Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Health and Counseling Services, the Health Service Counselor contributes to planning and administering comprehensive counseling services providing cognitive behavioral intervention, life skills coaching, mental health education, health promotion programming, and supportive services to promote overall student health and wellness. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Serves as a Licensed Professional Counselor for students enrolled at the University and participates in planning, implementing and coordinating a variety of student counseling and prevention programs. Assists in the overall administration and coordination of resources and activities including emergency, crisis services, brief counseling, and outreach, wellness coaching and campus-wide student health programs. Participates in on-call Counselor after hours contact rotations. Establishes and maintains productive and effective working relationships with campus-based and other essential local and national community-based agencies. Participates in creating, uploading, and downloading the center's online forms as needed. Assists and maintains current information and literature regarding Mental Health among college populations for the division's monthly/quarterly newsletter. Establishes collaborative relationships with assigned Academic and Non-Academic affiliates on campus to increase student access and awareness of on campus counseling and health care services. Develop, enhance, expand, and maintain positive and professional relationships with immediate staff, university personnel, and community partners. Participate in peer educator programs and work effectively with graduate level student interns. Provide individual and group counseling, presentations, and workshops as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.): Master's degree in psychology, Counseling or related field. Must possess an Associate Licensed Counselor (ALC) certification and must be able to obtain Alabama Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) within 60 days of hire. Experience with counseling in the areas of adjustment, relationships, substance abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, and anger management. Experience in developing, facilitating, and supervising student peer educators' programs is preferred. Demonstrate skills in providing short-term individual and group counseling, and crisis intervention that address developmental and mental health concerns typical of college students. Ability to establish and maintain contact with community psychological/psychiatric partners for the purposes of collaborative services and student access to appropriate resources. Experience as a facilitator for group therapy, conflict resolution and case managers. Three years counseling experience with college students is preferred.
