Position Overview The Health & Safety Leader's primary objective is to support execution of Hexion's strategic and tactical plan for all Health, Safety and Security matters for the manufacturing sites in the Geismar and Luling, Louisiana area. The successful candidate understands the regulatory and tactical overlap of the Environmental, Health, Safety, Security and Process Safety regulations. This position fosters a culture of engagement, empowerment, and compliance through direction and oversight of programs that support Hexion's primary goal of a compliant and incident-free workplace. The Health & Safety Leader plans and directs activities for alignment with the corporation's EHS goals and initiatives with each assigned manufacturing site. The position provides leadership, coaching and technical expertise to sites and site leadership teams to meet these goals. Job Responsibilities Assess facility operations for regulatory applicability, and local regulatory compliance with health, safety and security requirements Engage with associates at all levels to drive and support health and safety programs (e.g., workplace safety and contractor administration) at multiple manufacturing sites in the region Assist in the development and lead implementation of health and safety programs Actively participate on EHS project teams Ensure delivery of safety training programs to instruct employees in site EHS policies and procedures Focus on promoting and supporting an EHS culture from within by driving the implementation of core EHS programs, policies and initiatives Lead incident investigations and drive corrective action through cause mapping and 5-why analysis Be an active, engaged part of the site leadership team by interacting with associates remotely and in the field Competencies Leadership: Provide tactical direction and health and safety leadership for facilties Establish communication channels with each site to ensure execution of EHS strategic initiatives and expectations Develop partnerships with site associates and site leaders Actively engage and coach associates to drive a positive and safe culture Participate on Corporate teams and initiatives, as applicable Operational EHS Management: Support regional execution of health and safety performance & cultural metrics Gauge current state and provide basis for continuous improvement Act as the local subject satter expert for key health and safety programs Actively engage associates and site teams in the field Provide opportunities for positive recognition Lead and facilitate incident investigations and ensure a robust process is in place to determine corrective and preventive actions Support PHAs and other PSM processes to ensure EHS matters are fully addressed at all sites Provide oversight and management of site health and safety related action items Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the Safe Work Permitting process, Life Saving Rules, and other safety and environmental procedures Participate in development and execution of site capital expense process relating to health and safety Regulatory Compliance: Support compliance assurance programs for all applicable local, state, and federal health and safety regulations Have a working knowledge of OSHA 1910 and its applicability in chemical/industrial settings Have a working knowledge of security requirements in chemical/industrial settings Have a basic understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations to support the intersection of environmental regulations with health and safety compliance Auditing and Management Systems: Track and act on standardized EHS performance & cultural metrics on a routine basis consistent with company requirements Identify and implement initiatives to drive continuous improvement Administer, plan, coordinate, and execute company adopted EHS management systems & ensure the site complies and meets deadlines on all management systems Conduct periodic assessments of sites' EHS programs including contractor activities Support the corporate audit program and regulatory audits as needed Minimum Qualifications 7+ years' experience as a health and safety professional in a manufacturing/industrial environment (chemical / PSM process experience is preferred) Demonstrated knowledge and application of health and safety regulations Experience with MARSEC/TWIC applicable security programs Ability to work in fast paced environment and self-directed at times Ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of the organization Ability to effectively engage and build trust within a manufacturing facility Ability to lead and influence project teams and program execution Passion for recognizing and leading positive change Aptitude to lead and make challenging decisions in any situation Education Bachelor of Science degree in Environment, Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Engineering or technically related field or equivalent combination of education and experience Professional certifications is a plus (CSP/ASP) Travel Up to 25% domestic travel Other We are an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action employer.
