POSITION SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Health Information Consultant is to determine the record-keeping needs of the organization; ensure adoption, implementation, and maintenance of all record-keeping policies and procedures; and knowledge of all HIPAA policies and procedures. Additionally, as the HIPAA Privacy Officer, you are responsible for ensuring, maintaining, and overseeing the confidentiality and protection of patient information.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILTIES AND DUTIES
  • Training and mentoring of new and existing facility health information staff.
  • Assist in project management, training, and user maintenance of the electronic medical record.
  • Conducts routine audits of medical records to ensure accuracy and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Assists in recruitment and hiring of facility health information staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and assures privacy of health information.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
  • Three or more years' experience in Skilled Nursing Facility health information management.

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 coding, medical terminology, and willingness to pursue ongoing education in this area.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulatory requirements in long-term care.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and electronic medical records.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills; be process-oriented, yet flexible.
  • Ability to determine how functions and processes fit together to optimize workflow systems.
  • Knowledge of current healthcare trends and best practices.
  • Ability to think strategically at the executive level, enact change and implement strategies throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Exceptional team leadership skills, including the ability to effectively mentor, motivate and empower team members.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must qualify for employment, after criminal background check, per guidelines of the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
