Job Description This position is grant funded. Therefore, it is solely dependent on availability of grant funds. Works with program director on health education, prevention, nutrition, self-sustainability, wellness, community engagement, and mental health with the Community Mental Program from the City of Laredo Public Health Department. Provides management support for operations for the Integrated Behavioral Health. Essential Functions/ Job Competencies/ Physical Requirements ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides health education on prevention, wellness, mental health, and primary care. Prepares health education and prevention materials to be presented for City of Laredo Public Health Department health services. Conducts presentations on health education topics. Assists in coordinating and implementing health education programs in particular on primary care and mental/behavioral health. Reviews, prepares, and develops reports as needed. Communicates with program clients and community participants to provide information, support, and assistance. Helps individuals in filling out applications for health services and teaches them how to access the health care system. Maintains close contact with volunteers in case they need forms or other equipment. Projects a positive and professional image for the Public Health Department. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, with the ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets and documents effectively. Assists with office operations including managing schedules, handling correspondence, maintaining office supplies, tracking inventory, organizing files and records. Works closely with team on program operations through respectful and clear communication. Capable of using appointment scheduling software or tools to manage client appointments and monitor attendance records accurately. Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City use. Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE OF: Knowledge of principles and practices of health education and outreach, especially for maternal child health wellness and nutrition. Knowledge of health problems and community resources. Knowledge of people's behavior or culture for social interaction. Knowledge of the Hispanic culture. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Skilled in maintaining organized schedules and calendars to ensure efficient allocation of time and resources. Ability to build networks for health promotion, prevention, and social services support. Ability to work effectively with others and to deal tactfully with professional personnel and the public. Ability to support program management operations, reports, and office support. Ability to understand both oral and written instructions. Ability to speak effectively with groups and individuals. Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor. Proficient in calling clients to schedule appointments and track attendance. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to maintain a valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record. Ability to project a positive and professional image of the City of Laredo. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language. Ability to comply with all City of Laredo policies and procedures. Ability to maintain good health and physical condition sufficient to permit the full performance of the duties of the position. WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS Physical Effort Requirements Position will have the following exposures Office or similar indoor environment, relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. At least one (1) year of experience in health education, outreach, or community social support. Proof of TB Test/Screening will be required to be presented prior to employment. Valid Licenses and Certifications Required Licenses or Certifications None Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment. As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
