Position Type: Support Staff/Health Assistant Date Posted: 5/6/2024 Location: Sopori Elementary School Date Available: ASAP Closing Date: Until filled Additional Information: Show/Hide TITLE: Health Assistant CONTRACT TERMS: 10-Month SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Support Staff Salary Schedule -Group D $14.76 GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: To provide health related assistance to students; to assist in creating a climate of health and well-being; to assure a caring and understanding environment for students. PRINCIPAL DUTIES: OFFICE INTERACTION: Works under the direct and indirect supervision of a licensed nurse; Assists in preparation of a physical environment that meets the needs of students; Complies with procedures, protocols, and other instructions provided by the district nurse or contained in manuals and protocols; Maintains health records for all students; Assists with immunization program and deficiency notifications; Assists with student physical screening program; Assists with maintenance of student cumulative health records for all students, documenting student medical and immunization history and other pertinent data; Puts data into computer; Performs typing and filing as required; Assists with telephone coverage; Assists with attendance activities, including verification of and reasons for absence; Maintains health supply inventory; Assists with completion of all state and county reports; submits copies to District Nurse; Maintains emergency release records; Performs other related tasks as assigned; Assists parents with information regarding outside agency information and referral; Participates with the district student wellness committees and works with Dental Van; STUDENT INTERACTION Maintains a daily log of all students tended to, recording reason for visit and action taken; puts data into computer; Administers basic CPR and first aide to students; Documents in computer Takes vital signs of students, including blood pressures, pulse, temperature and respiratory rate. Documents results in computer;. Administers medications, including insulin, glucagon, and epinephrine, given to students according to physician's orders and per training, with parental written consent, per SUSD policy. Documents in computer; Assists students in carrying out medical procedures according to physician's orders and per training, with written parental consent, per SUSD policy. Documents in computer: Performs visual, auditory, special education screening. Documents results; Communicates all student health concerns with Nurse; Assists with reporting Communicable Diseases and Animal Bites to Pima County Health Department; Follows procedures for suspected cases of child abuse and neglect; Notifies Nurse; Follows procedures for submitting accident reports; Notifies Nurse Supervises students as assigned; Assists with health education activities; Communicates with parents when student is too sick to stay in school or should seek professional medical care; Performs other related tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: ACCEPTABLE EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Post high school education or training; One year experience; CPR and first aide certification required by the American Heart Association Heartsaver. Data entry experience desirable; Ability to communicate and work well with staff and students. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods, repetitious hand and body movements, simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine motor and gross motor skills, bending, lifting, squatting, kneeling, climbing, and reaching. Ability to lift or move students as required and has the stamina to stand all day as needed, assistance available. PERFORMANCE EXCEPTIONS: TIME MANAGEMENT: Must plan two to twelve weeks in advance; STRESS MANAGEMENT: Increased Stress with intermittent conditions; PUBLIC CONTACT: Interacts primarily with students; LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY: Must use own initiative and judgment in performing; responsibility for confidential records and information.
