POSITION SUMMARY The head strength and conditioning coach and director of the Welch Fitness Center is responsible for creating, implementing and evaluating all strength and conditioning plans for DePauw Athletics while overseeing the Welch Fitness Center. The head strength and conditioning coach is responsible for establishing and maintaining a strength and conditioning program for all sports, with the three major goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. The strength and conditioning coach will create training plans according to sound scientific principles, supervise training sessions, evaluate athletes, and document all training sessions. The head strength and conditioning coach meets regularly with sport coaches to determine how strength and conditioning practices can improve the student-athlete experience. The director of the Welch Fitness Center is responsible for maintaining the Welch Fitness Center, and for establishing policies, plans, and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the facility. This individual will be responsible for identifying, hiring and training student workers, scheduling fitness classes, determining hours of operation for the Welch Fitness Center, completing routine facility maintenance, overseeing community memberships and creating and implementing an annual budget. Develop and implement plans and strategies for strength and conditioning practices. Work in cooperation with the sports medicine or athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured student-athletes. Conduct an annual needs analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coach and the team's athletic trainer at the conclusion of each sport season. Hire, supervise and process timecards for student workers in the Welch Fitness Center. Manage the Welch Fitness Center budgets. Schedule routine Welch Fitness Center facility maintenance. Oversee community membership. Schedule fitness classes, and solicit instructors. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Experience: Minimum of 3 years working with competitive athletes. Experience in higher education is preferred. Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, Google Apps, and other programs as determined by specific responsibilities Communication/Language: Basic: Ability to read, listen to and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write and communicate simple correspondence. Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Certificates & Licenses: Current, active certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association is required. A valid US driver's license is required. Certification in first aid/CPR/AED is required by the first date of appointment and must be maintained throughout appointment. Other Requirements: Excellent communication skills Commitment to and history of strong belief in mentoring students and demonstrated experience working with young adults Desire to work in a rural, small-school environment devoted to providing liberal arts education, building community, and helping students prepare for their future careers The head strength and conditioning coach and director of the Welch Fitness Center will stand/walk/sit for 6-8 hours per day at practice, perform office tasks (meet with student-athletes and colleagues and respond to correspondence) for 3 hours per day, and on the phone and computer 1-2 hours per day. They must be able to enact the emergency action plan, and supervise students during strength and conditioning practices. The head strength and conditioning coach and director of the Welch Fitness Center is required to create and respond to correspondence (email and Microsoft office/Google docs) and maintain electronic recruiting records. They must be able to provide basic demonstrations of skills and tactics, describe any modifications they are unable to demonstrate, apply appropriate risk management strategies during practice and monitor for safety while coaching.
