Head of Commercial Strategy and Operations, US Region

Must be comfortable spending over 50% of time traveling to visit customers, team meetings

May require relocation to the Miami Headquarters

Overview of Role:

The head of Commercial Strategy and Operations , US region will report into the Chief Operations Officer and will be responsible for continuing to evolve and execute on the commercial strategy of the company, in collaboration with cross functional and executive leadership. This will include pre-launch preparation and market launch execution. This candidate will have a proven track record of performance, consistently meeting or exceeding financial goals and/or other quantitative targets, and qualitative goals. The candidate will have successfully navigated complex market scenarios, including rapidly changing payer and patient environments, market access barriers and lean resources. This person will be regarded as a highly collaborative team member with proven ability to establish trust and leverage credibility and rapport with peers and company leadership across disciplines and levels. Similarly, the candidate should be a strong leader who values team and personal development and performance opportunities.

Role and Responsibilities:

Responsible for overseeing and developing the global commercial strategic plan.
Directs the execution of a fully integrated commercial business plan. This includes global marketing, business analytics, market planning and market research as well as sales and customer support groups.


Identifies changes in the environment or competitive strategies and evaluates, adjusts, or redrafts the organization's marketing plan and philosophy accordingly for all markets worldwide.

Lead development and deployment of a comprehensive stage-gated operating plan and oversee all market and company readiness activities leading up to and through commercial launch.

Build a fit-for-purpose Commercial capability set that meets Summit's strategic and functional requirements.

Design and deploy integrated company, disease, and product communication plans in partnership with Medical Affairs and other relevant functions to elevate Summit's profile and establish conditions for a successful product launch.

Lead, design, and enable decision making for go-to-market models which may include establishment of strategic partnerships in certain geographies.

Leads in the message generation for the key external stakeholders such as KOLs, Patient Advocacy Organizations, Payers, and investors.

Provide commercial input to clinical development teams, pipeline strategy, and program prioritization.

Build, guide and lead the commercial organization to achieve success through launching and commercializing the company's portfolio of products.

Develop and implement a comprehensive, rational and cohesive marketing plan across the relevant range of customer segments; support the continued advancement of future marketing strategies.

Develop, successfully implement, and drive the commercial strategy for the US launch.

Ensure that short-range and long-range demand forecasts are prepared in collaboration with finance teams.

Ensure the organization is prepared for upcoming product launches and has the appropriate infrastructure in place to implement strategy for distribution of product to 3PL, SP and SD commercial claims data analytics, etc.

Align with the ex-US commercial teams on the global brand plans and operations strategy.

Ensure that eligible patients are identified and have access to our products; overcome implementation hurdles should they arise.

Develop strategies for critical areas, including pricing, market access and reimbursement.

Interface with colleagues in the other regions

Collaborate with Business Strategy & Development to identify and evaluate external opportunities that advance the strategic position/capabilities of the company.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders, customers, including representatives of local/regional healthcare systems, payors and industry associations to identify opportunities which enhance product line performance and maximize product line earnings.

Provide collaborative business leadership to all allied functions, including but not limited to Manufacturing, R&D, Medical Affairs, and G & A.

Recruit, hire and develop outstanding leadership talent for critical functions in the region.

Maintain industry awareness regarding market trends, competitive dynamics, product acceptance, and new product releases.

Maintain a high level of respect, professionalism and confidentiality.

Direct Commercial Change Management resources to ensure sustainable Commercial change and ensure that new products are launched to maximize the intended impact

Ensure that Commercial talent is continually developed, with emphasis placed on critical competency development and enablement.

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, Marketing or related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred.

20 years proven track record of success in commercial leadership roles within the biopharmaceutical industry, with a focus on oncology/lung cancer required

Must be familiar with relevant legal and regulatory environment in biotech/pharmaceutical industry.

Strong business acumen with a deep understanding of commercial strategy development, market analysis, and customer relationship management.

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve goals.

Strategic thinker with the ability to identify and capitalize on market opportunities while mitigating risks.

Demonstrated ability to negotiate complex agreements and contracts with customers, partners, and suppliers.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt quickly to changing market conditions.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and strategies.

The pay range for this role is $300,000 to $360,000 annually. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor. The total compensation package for this position may also include bonus, stock, benefits and/or other applicable variable compensation. The successful candidate will also be eligible for health benefits, 401(k) with 6% employer match from day one, ESPP with a 15% discount up to the federal limit, flexible spending account among other benefits compensation
