Salary Amount or Range: $55 to $65 per hour DOE (Annual salary range: $125,000 to $135,000) + standard benefits (paid vacation, sick days, holidays) + medical stipend

Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced head gardener and landscape supervisor to oversee the gardening and landscape maintenance for our client in Marin County. This successful candidate will be a working supervisor responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and performing activities supporting the properties exterior landscape appearance.

Responsibilities include; gardening, planting, landscape maintenance and development, maintenance and monitoring of irrigation and watering along with some handyperson and estate maintenance. Additionally, they will coordinate with a Horticulture Consultant when requested by the principals to ensure the overall exterior aesthetics meet expectations. Flower , plant and tree knowledge is essential.

Experience Requirements
  • 5+ years landscaping experience preferred with excellent verifiable references
  • 2+ years management experience preferred with excellent verifiable references
Educational Requirements
  • Fluency in English
  • College degree in horticulture is preferred not required in lieu of on the job experience
Qualifications
  • Valid driver with clean record
  • Flower , plant and tree knowledge is essential
  • Landscaping and management experience
  • Pool maintenance and general handyman skills are a plus for this role either with direct completion of tasks or supervision of such.
Responsibilities

Head Gardener & Landscape Supervisor

  • Full responsibility for maintaining all estate landscaping needs, including but not limited to: weeding, planting of flowers/plants/trees/bushes, plant ordering, mowing, edging, spreading of bark, irrigation control, usage of all related power tools. Additionally, must be able to meet all physical requirements, including regularly being on their feet, limiting and moving items up to 50 lbs.
  • Managing gardening personnel, to include: daily supervision and assignment of tasks, scheduling, onboarding and training, assisting HR with the creation and regularly updating job descriptions, performance assessments, reviewing timesheets, and counseling as needed.
  • Effectively managing the overall landscaping schedule and assigning tasks to landscaping personnel to maintain properties and a high-standard of appearance.
  • The full scope of the landscaping tasks assigned to both the Landscaping Supervisor and other personnel will include but are not limited to:

Lawn care - to include: mowing all grass, edging all grass along concrete walkways and around planting beds, hauling and recycling of all debris, manage custom fertilizer and application schedule, and spot spraying for weeds, broadleaf, and invasive grasses.

Bed Maintenance - to include: weed control in all planting beds using a combination of labor, spot spraying and scheduled pre-emergent herbicide applications, all bed areas are to be regularly and thoroughly cleaned of weeds, raking and blowing all planting beds clean of debris, hauling and recycling all debris.

Flower, Shrub and Plant Care - to include: careful pruning of all flowers, plants, shrubs, perennials, and small ornamental trees (pruning will be done by hand or with the use of gas-powered shears, whichever is necessary to effectively and gracefully groom each specific shrub - pruning must be done at appropriate intervals to maintain a clean and well-manicured appearance - pruning of small ornamental trees will be done by hand), hauling and recycling of all debris. If a third-party Professional Service is needed for the care of larger trees, permission by Management must be granted.

General Grounds Care - to include: blowing the entire grounds clean of all leaves and debris, including the parking lots, concrete walking surfaces and all landscaping areas. Weed control in all solid surface areas (example - concrete joints, asphalt, etc.) using a combination of labor and spot spraying. Must have knowledge of chemicals. Laying fresh bark down seasonally.

Irrigation - to include: identifying and fixing all irrigation to make sure it is working properly for all properties.

Additionally -

  • Expected to take direction and be capable of performing tasks from the Landscape Consultant and the Principals as requested. Also, the person hired should be willing to assist with additional tasks such as car maintenance ( taking car to dealership for service or as simple as driving to gas station and assuring the tank is full and car is ready for Principals to drive)
  • Thoroughly researching products and supplies prior to purchasing, including but not limited to: equipment, machinery, plants, and other landscaping supplies and materials and review with Principals.
  • A willingness to complete other tasks and duties within the scope of ones knowledge as requested.
