Position Summary

To continue delivering best-in-class seedlings and innovative agriculture solutions to field growers, we are seeking a Head Grower.


The Head Grower is?responsible?for managing?labor activities performed at their assigned location?through effective decision making pertinent?to production and monitoring different tasks related to the production of?different crops with the goal of obtaining the best plant quality possible while minimizing expenses. This position?focuses?on safety of employees and maintaining good housekeeping standards throughout multi-site facility locations?to?improve overall production success.


Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)

Monitor?a variety of crops and partner?with seed line operators, irrigators, and sprayers to decide water, sprays, and fertilizer applications for each?crop in housed in greenhouse(s).

Communicate?problems related to crops, labor, employee safety, and housekeeping?issues.

Provide expertise to employees and others to ensure that appropriate decisions are being made to prevent or fix problems related to all crops.

Effectively manage?and?provide recommendation as needed to ensure that crops and being moved accordingly to the various production locations.

Coordinate all crop moves and lead logistics pertinent to crop transfers.

Monitor?plant quality?is excellent?during the crop season controlling size and diseases to ensure the company delivers quality plants to its customers.

Partner?with the Greenhouse Operations Manager to plan for ultimate effective?space utilization according to the crops to be grown in the area.

Plan?general labor activities and communicate these accordingly to Productivity Manager, Lead and Crew Leaders assigned to ensure that labor productivity is being maximized.

Minimize?horticulture waste and dumped plants, report as necessary and as requested

Effectively lead and supervise the employees?by providing proper training, following safety procedures, and taking disciplinary actions as needed.

Performs all duties in accordance with environmental, food safety, safety rules and regulations.?

Performs other duties as assigned.?





Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Experience)

Bachelor's degree?in Agronomy/Plant Science or related field or a combination of related 7+ years' experience in Agricultural settings, preferably in Greenhouse plant production of vegetable production.?

Intermediate Microsoft Business Suite required (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint).?

Valid driver's license and eligibility for auto insurance.?

Bi-lingual English/Spanish required.?

  1. Ability to work with all levels of management.?

Ability to lead a crew of 6+ employees.?


Physical Requirements

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; frequently required to talk or hear; and occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities by this job include close distance and color vision.
