At Valley Regional Hospital, patients are the center of our coordinated care system and right now we have an opening for a Head Chef to join our team.

The primary responsibility of the Head Chef is:

  • Manages the provision of food production and service to patients, staff, visitors, and catering functions.
  • Develop creative menus that incorporate a variety of local, seasonal, and cultural dishes
  • Build menu plans with consideration to food allergies and sensitivities, make room for accommodation whenever possible
  • Monitor inventory and plan orders of supplies or ingredients according to identified shortages
  • Monitor kitchen equipment and arrange repairs when necessary
  • Oversee the work of subordinates
  • Ensures that federal, state, local, institutional, and departmental standards of sanitation, quality, and safety are maintained and in compliance.
  • Foster a climate of cooperation and respect between co-workers
  • Monitor various logs and tracking sheets, reporting variances to Culinary Manager
  • Participate in the training of newly hired cooks and culinary specialists


Ideal Candidate would have the following qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Possess a positive and proactive attitude with the ability to motivate and encourage team members
  • Exceptional proven ability of kitchen management
  • Ability in dividing responsibilities and monitoring progress
  • Outstanding communication and leadership skills
  • Credentials in health and safety training (Servsafe Manager Certification preferred)
  • Knowledge of nutrition, diets and allergies, food safety, and storage
  • Degree in Culinary science or related certificate preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of culinary supervisory experience in a healthcare institution or high-volume food service establishment preferred
