The North Carolina Department of Administration Facility Management Division is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and skilled Grounds Worker II responsible for a variety of grounds maintenance tasks in the Landscaping Services section in the downtown Raleigh, Garner Road, and Blue Ridge Road complexes. Key Responsibilities: Waters lawns, trees, shrubs, flowerbeds, and ground covers. Operates power equipment and hand tools such as tillers, weed eaters, blowers, aerators, push and riding mowers, edgers, chain saws, and hedge trimmers in mowing grass, edging sidewalks and curbs, trimming shrubbery, aerating soil, and removing trees and shrubs. Rakes leaves, weed control, applies mulch, picks up trash, and clears debris. Plants shrubs, flowers, and grass according to detailed instructions. Supervises inmates through providing training and instruction, reviewing work upon for quality and adherence to instructions, and ensuring that they are using proper safety equipment and precautions. Division/ Department Overview The Department of Administration serves as the business manager for North Carolina state government and provides leadership to state government agencies for the effective, efficient, economical and equitable delivery of services to the public. The department also provides assistance and services to several advocacy programs that serve diverse segments of the state's population that have traditionally been underserved. The agency's mission directs departmental efforts to: acquire, develop and maintain properties and facilities; create and operate an efficient system to purchase and dispose of goods and services to meet the needs of government agencies; provide excellent operational services to state employees; achieve fair and equitable opportunities and representation for various segments of the population that have special needs; and to provide administrative support to independent state government agencies. Working knowledge of groundskeeping and horticultural practices. Working knowledge of the cultivation, pruning, spraying, and trimming requirements of shrubs and trees. General knowledge of the types and uses of common power equipment and hand tools used in grounds maintenance work and the ability to properly and safely use equipment and tools. Demonstrated experience with making minor repairs to lawnmowers, hose, rakes, pruners, and sprayers. Experience supervising the work of other employees. MANAGEMENT PREFERENCE: Strong attention to detail. Great customer service skills. Strong interpersonal/ human relations skills and ability to work collaboratively with others. Ability to operate a personal computer and utilize various software programs. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Other Requirements: Valid NC Driver's License. Physical strength and agility sufficient to move relatively heavy objects and to perform manual labor for considerable periods of time.
