KeyStaff is hiring for a Grant Academic Tutor in San Marcos, TX.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am- 6pm

Pay: 16-18/hr

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide Individual and Group Tutoring: Conduct one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions for high school participants in various math and science subjects, including but not limited to algebra, geometry, calculus, biology, chemistry, and physics.
  • Identify Learning Needs: Assess participants' academic strengths and weaknesses to tailor tutoring sessions according to their individual learning needs and learning styles.
  • Develop Customized Learning Plans: Collaborate with program staff to create personalized learning plans for participants, setting clear academic goals and milestones.
  • Explain Concepts: Break down complex math and science concepts into understandable parts, ensuring participants grasp fundamental principles and enhance their problem-solving skills.
  • Provide Practical Examples: Use real-world examples and applications to make abstract concepts more relatable and engaging for participants.
  • Offer Study Strategies: Equip participants with effective study techniques, time management skills, and strategies to improve their overall learning and retention.
  • Monitor Progress: Track participants' progress, attendance, and improvements over time. Adjust tutoring strategies based on progress.
  • Collaborate with Program Staff: Work closely with other program staff members, such as instructors and mentors, to align tutoring efforts with the overall academic support structure.
  • Maintain Records: Keep accurate records of tutoring sessions, participant achievements, and feedback for documentation and reporting purposes.
  • Participate in Training: Attend training sessions, workshops, and professional development opportunities to enhance tutoring skills and stay updated on education best practices.
  • Foster a Positive Learning Environment: Create a welcoming and supportive environment that encourages participants to ask questions, explore topics, and build confidence in their math and science abilities.
  • Maintain Professionalism: Uphold ethical standards and professionalism in interactions with participants, parents, and colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • Major in mathematics, science, education, or a related field with a 3.5 or above GPA.
  • Proficiency in math and science subjects, including algebra, geometry, calculus, biology, chemistry, and physics.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with and motivate high school participants.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience in tutoring, teaching, or mentoring, preferably in an educational or academic setting.
