Grant Accountant

Responsibilities of the Grant Accountant:

  • Oversee the financial aspects of grants and contracts, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Monitor grant expenditures, ensuring adherence to funding source regulations and internal policies.
  • Prepare accurate financial reports, including cash flow projections, financial statements, and grant-specific reports.
  • Collaborate with program managers to provide timely financial information for grant reporting purposes.
  • Assist in developing and preparing grant budgets in collaboration with program staff and senior management.
  • Support the annual budgeting process, aligning grants with overall organizational objectives.
  • Ensure strict adherence to grant funding guidelines, regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Work closely with program managers and auditors to address findings or recommendations related to grant finances.
  • Analyze financial data and performance metrics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in grant accounting and reporting.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to streamline financial processes and systems.

Requirements of the Grant Accountant:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in grant accounting, preferably in a non-profit environment.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), grant accounting standards, and regulations
  • Proficiency in financial management systems and tools, including ERP systems and MS Excel.
