Job Description Duties and Responsibilities: Facilitate and foster student learning by asking questions, collaborating with writers during consultations, and teaching important writing strategies and concepts Contribute to the creation of a safe, inclusive, and collaborative environment for learning Lead writing workshops and assist with marketing events Participate in pre-service training and ongoing education, trainings, and professional development Participate in committees and special projects, bringing your ideas, interests, and skills to expand the collective knowledge and abilities of the Writing Center Ability to work approximately 8 hours/week and at least one evening/week After one semester of service: Continuing consultants may be interested in additional roles, including writing group facilitator and consultant development facilitator. Required Qualifications Required Qualifications: Graduate student at KU, enrolled in at least 6 credit hours Excellent written communication skills as evidenced in application materials As demonstrated in application materials, a commitment to the improvement of one's own writing and professional development as a writing consultant Willingness to work in multiple modalities (face-to-face, online, videoconference) Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications: Federal Work-Study eligible applicants who have accepted an award for academic year Experience as a writing consultant in a college or community setting Teaching experience OR experience working with others one-on-one or in group settings Fluency in spoken and written Spanish. Formal training in academic writing in Spanish An investment in helping fellow writers reach their academic goals with strong listening skills, sensitivity, generosity, and flexibility Experience working productively with diverse populations
