POSITION SUMMARY: The Registered Dental Hygienist, under the direction of the Dental Director and Chief Solo Dentist, is responsible for concentrating on the delivery of clinical care to dental patients, including radiology, charting, scaling and root planing and oral hygiene instruction. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following) Performs radiographic services. Performs root planing and scaling. Charting of the patient's clinical conditions (existing, conditions, treatment plan, BP, probing). Applies topical fluoride application and sealant application. Educates patients on oral hygiene. Performs operatory preparation and clean-up. Maintains supplies in area. Follows infection control protocols and procedures. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (includes, but is not limited to, the following) Maintains infection control procedures. All other job-related duties as assigned. CONTACTS: Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, customers and outside vendor/service providers. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position light with lifting of 20 pounds, with frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of hearing, near vision depth perception, color/field of vision, bending, frequent standing, walking, sitting, use of midrange vision, smell, typing, and occasional carrying/lifting, pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, manual handling, far vision and travel. pushing/pulling, climbing and stooping and kneeling. Working conditions include constant exposure to moving mechanical parts, infectious exposure, patient contact, computer and equipment use and occasional exposure to electric shock, high exposed places and chemicals. Personal protection equipment provided by employer includes items such as but not limited to, gloves, gowns, laboratory coats, face shields, masks, eye protection, mouth pieces, resuscitation bags, pockets masks, ventilation devices and other equipment as needed. Immunizations including Hepatitis B vaccination series will be offered to team member at no cost. REQUIREMENTS: Education: Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene required. Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene preferred. Experience: Two years of dental hygiene experience preferred. Certification/License: Must possess and maintain current State of Michigan Dental Hygiene License. CPR Certification required. Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must maintain a good moral character standing. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of dental hygiene principles in the areas of periodontics, radiology and prevention required. Knowledge of root planing and scaling, radiology and oral hygiene instruction required. Must be able to establish and maintain effective communication with co-workers, supervisors and guests. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must have excellent public relation/customer service skills and be able to exhibit a friendly and positive attitude. Must maintain confidentiality. Native American preferred. Sault Tribe
