The GOM Petrophysicist will be part of the GOM Asset Dev ST Petrophysics Department and will support the Gulf of Mexico Business Unit in managing both short and long term planning as well as in controlling program execution while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. This will be done by working closely with the Assets, Plants and Operational Support groups to gather, analyze and reconcile all necessary data to allow execution of these plans.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of formation evaluation programs to optimize project team objectives, particularly as a critical member of deepwater integrated project teams.
  • Provide operational petrophysical support to wells drilling within areas of responsibility.
  • Apply petrophysical interpretation techniques using state-of-the-art technology and mentor others in the deployment of advanced techniques.
  • Undertake petrophysical regional studies to support exploration and development teams in their efforts to evaluate new basins/plays and improve reservoir characterization of strategic assets.
  • Interface with logging and coring vendors as part of providing petrophysical support for the business units.
  • Keep up with current and leading logging (wireline and LWD) technologies and recommend their applications where appropriate.
  • Provide support for pore pressure and fracture gradient analysis
  • Interface with asset/exploration team and Petrophysics department to maximize knowledge and technology transfer.
Qualifications Required:
  • M.S. or PhD in Geoscience or Petroleum Engineering
  • 5 years of experience with an oil & gas operating company conducting petrophysical interpretation and assisting logging operations.
  • A minimum of 3 years of documented experience in petrophysical interpretation of offshore GOM deepwater reservoirs including design of LWD and wireline logging operations.
  • Demonstrates strong background in acquisition and evaluation of LWD pressure, wireline pressure and fluid sampling data.
  • Have practical experience in estimating seismic and/or mechanical properties from log data.
  • Demonstrates strong background in acquisition and evaluation of routine core analysis data with experience in core-based rock-typing in conjunction with reservoir modeling studies. Be able to describe examples of integrated petrophysical studies performed in deepwater turbidites.
  • Proficiency in computer-based interpretation in a petrophysical software package is a must and working experience with proven track record of writing computer code for petrophysical programs.
