GI Tech: The GI Technician is directly responsible for the clean set-up and maintenance of all assigned cases. The GI Tech must have knowledge of all equipment and endoscopes used in the GI Lab. The GI Tech must have knowledge of anatomy and physiology as well as the types of endoscopic procedures to allow for the proper preparation and anticipation of the surgeon's needs before and during the case. The GI Tech must ensure that supplies are used in a cost-effective manner. He/she must promote teamwork with the GI staff and surgeons and project a positive unit and hospital image to contacts inside and outside the hospital. The GI tech will be responsible for maintaining all cleaning/processing of endoscopes, and processors. Will also be responsible for all documentation of cleaning, testing and processing of GI scopes, and keep the department State survey ready at all times. Also, will be responsible for any other assigned task or duties, as directed be GI Services leadership. Patient Care Tech: Under the supervision of the registered nurse, performs the receptionist and secretarial duties in the GI Services Center while functioning as the focal communication source in the nursing station. Supports clinical duties and maintains supply control. REQUIREMENTS: GI Tech: The GI Technician should have a certificate of training or past experience, but an inexperienced applicant will be considered at the discretion of the GI Services Center Director. He/she must be readily adaptable to the changing physical demands of the unit. Must possess physical/mental health sufficient to meet those demands: to include: (1.) Ability to stand on feet for a minimum for four hours, (2.) Ability to lift, push or pull a minimum of 40lbs., (3.) Ability to use hands for gripping, precision piecework, i.e. thread suture/needle. Must be able to use both hands equally. (4.) Must be able to use either foot for repetitive movements necessary with some equipment, (5.) Must meet sensory requirements of sight and be able to both speak English and understand verbal communication. (6.) Must be neat in appearance, dependable, and cooperative and have a sincere interest in his or her job. The GI Technician must demonstrate overall knowledge and skills of human growth and development necessary for the range of treatment and care of patients appropriate to age as required for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Patient Care Tech: Ability to comprehend medical terminology, hospital experience of satisfactory completion of training program preferred. Able to flex his/her work schedule to meet the demands of the unit. PCP is required to provide a positive image of the hospital to the community. Must demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills. Any exception must be approved by the Department Manager.
