Position Summary

The Geospatial Specialist II is responsible for providing highly responsive technical & business process geospatial support to Xcel Energy's geographic information system (GIS) and GIS related application users, to maximize technology availability, productivity, and continuous improvement across the enterprise. Provides prompt, courteous, and professional desk side and remote support to key business customers, as well as informal, one-on-one user training and knowledge transfer on all aspects of Xcel Energy's enterprise GIS Systems and enterprise resource planning systems (SAP). Geospatial Specialist II Designs, develops and delivers comprehensive training curriculum to end users of geospatial applications in a classroom or e-learning environment to drive continuous improvement and geospatial knowledge gain for a wide variety of customers. Acts as a geospatial point-of-contact for both internal and external customers to support inquires related to but not limited to regulatory requests/filings, GIS asset data extracts and analytics, environmental impact/hazard analysis, GIS system integrations and data integrity. Provides comprehensive support related to interactive mapping solutions (ESRI ArcEnterprise Solutions and GSA Lite), expertise and consultation on GIS system integrations, clean energy data mapping/analytics as well as a serving as master data stewards for geospatial owned enterprise resource planning systems. Geospatial Specialist II's hold in-depth knowledge and competency in gas and or electric geospatial data integrity standards, transmission and distribution design processes, SAP equipment/functional location lifecycles, and construction practices. Geospatial Specialist II also collaborates with their direct leader to identify training and development opportunities for peer Geospatial Specialist I's to drive continuous improvement and goal realization.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Training and Support Manage the development and delivery of a variety of technical training for geospatial application users. This includes but is not limited to classroom materials, written manuals, quick referral sheets, electronic materials, and e-learning content. Interact with business area leadership as needed scheduling and providing GIS, Design Tool, and mobile mapping application end user training.

  • Misc. Requests/Special Requests Respond to internal/external requests for specialized GIS map products. Provide query/data analysis and data imports/extracts to support business processes, regulatory reporting, and data needs of advanced downstream applications. Produce metric reports to support the Geospatial organization productivity and efficiency goals. Ensure GIS is accurate and up to date by researching missing as built paperwork and purging non-valid design alternatives/versions from the GIS and Design Tool applications.

  • Geospatial Project Management Support the Geospatial Project Management team as needed. May include, but not limited to, writing and executing test scripts, providing implementation support, various reporting and documentation needs as directed by Geospatial Project Management Team.

  • End User Application Support Assist end users of GIS and GIS related applications with software and internal business process questions. Work directly with I/T Support troubleshooting and resolving application errors. Provide configuration assistance setting up new users with software access and permissions. Run daily merge/post activities and weekly GIS alternative/version conflict management reports.


Minimum Requirements

  • Completion of degree in GIS or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Minimum 5 year gas and electric utility experience with demonstrated proficiency in Geospatial applications and an in-depth knowledge in electric and gas systems.

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications.

  • Demonstrates ability to make complex material understandable; clearly articulating key points when writing and speaking.

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.

  • Exceptional verbal, written communication skills and knowledge of effective training methodology with a minimum of 1 year experience providing end user training and support.

  • May require travel across Xcel Energy Enterprise Service Territory.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $69,700.00 to $99,100.00 per year
