General Surgeon PHY needed for Harlan, IA
•
• Facility has an OB-GYN and 2 FM OBs who also take C-section call. (
• Trauma Level IV
• Surgical Volumes:
• OR Cases (surgical cases & scopes)
• September 2022 February 20, 2024 = 804 (Historically, our former GS completed 550-600 cases per year)
• Clinic visits
• September 2022 February 21, 2024 = 959
• Consults = 438
• Follow-ups = 447
• In-clinic procedures = 70 (paracentesis/thoracentesis/vasectomy)
• Other = 4
•
• Top General Surgery procedures performed include Gallbladder, Hernias, Skin excisions/biopsies, and abdominal (small bowel)
•
• Clinical procedures including, but not limited to:
• Excision of cysts
• I&D
• Laceration repair
• Wound care
• Paracentesis/Thoracentesis Ultrasound-guided, if needed
• Hemorrhoid banding
• Mon.-Thur. 7:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. in the clinic and OR (on call until Friday morning)
• Call back after hours: 20 minutes
• Types of surgeries: Bread & butter general surgery; upper/lower scopes required Surgeries sent out: Sends outs from the ER are due to acuity or availability of GS. Some examples include: acute appendicitis, acute bleeds, etc. If the GS is not comfortable or knows the patient can receive more skilled care elsewhere the GS sends out.
• Two integrated OR suites and 1 room available for scoping - Endo room and OR suite can be run at the same time
• Large OR rooms
• Pre-op rooms - 8
• Private PACU with cameras
• No robotics, but can provide just about everything Nebraska Med can
• New sterile processing units
• Separate entrance for surgical services
• Myrtue is committed to providing the preferred equipment to the incoming surgeon. If a surgeon s preference falls outside of one of two preferred vendors (LigaSure and Harmonic), Myrtue is open to purchasing or renting as necessary.
• Clinic Facilities
• Large exam rooms General Surgeon typically utilizes 2 rooms, but additional are available
• Easy access to the OR from the clinic within a few steps.
• EMR: EPIC
• Quick EMR Access: 14 days to receive a password from UIHC
• EMR training required? Candidate Requirements:
• Boards certification:
• Life Certifications needed: ATLS, ACLS, PALS. Must be AHA certifications, no others accepted. They will NOT accept AMRI life certs. (will accept non-AHA courses at initial application.)
• IA License, IA CSA, and DEA with IA address
• Immunizations required: MMR, Hep. B, Varicella, Tdap (prefer titers, but will accept documentation of immunizations given.)
• COVID 19 vaccine required
• Flu vaccine required
• PPD skin test or lab draw required within the past 12 months. (willing to order QuantiFeron TB Gold test and have drawn after EMR training, if needed.)
• Mandatory Reporters Training of dependent adult & child abuse (MRT) required
• Procedure logs past two year required. No specific number of procedures required
