General Superintendent (Heavy Civil Construction)

Job Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Civil Construction General Superintendent to lead and oversee all aspects of heavy civil construction projects, including excavation, grading, underground utilities, site concrete, paving, and related work. As the General Superintendent, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of projects while maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency throughout the construction process.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Management:
    • Lead and manage multiple heavy civil construction projects simultaneously.
    • Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets in collaboration with project managers.
    • Ensure project milestones and deadlines are met and that projects are completed within budget.
  • Safety Compliance:
    • Champion and enforce a strong safety culture, ensuring that all personnel and subcontractors adhere to safety standards and protocols.
    • Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to mitigate risks and prevent accidents.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Oversee construction activities to ensure the highest level of workmanship and quality.
    • Implement and monitor quality control procedures and ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Recruit, hire, and supervise field personnel, including superintendents, foremen, and laborers.
    • Provide leadership and mentorship to the project team, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.
  • Site Management:
    • Manage site logistics and resources to optimize construction efficiency.
    • Coordinate equipment and material deliveries, storage, and utilization to minimize downtime.
  • Subcontractor Management:
    • Select, negotiate with, and manage subcontractors to ensure they meet project requirements, schedules, and budgets.
    • Maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors to facilitate successful project execution.
  • Communication:
    • Regularly update project stakeholders on progress, issues, and changes.
    • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to resolve construction-related challenges and provide solutions.
  • Cost Control:
    • Monitor project costs and take proactive measures to control expenses and avoid cost overruns.
    • Review and approve subcontractor invoices and change orders.
  • Environmental Compliance:
    • Ensure that construction activities comply with environmental regulations and best practices.

  • Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field preferred.
    • A minimum of 10 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with a track record of successfully managing projects.
    • Strong knowledge of excavation, grading, underground utilities, site concrete, and paving.
    • Proficient in construction management software and tools.
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
    • OSHA 30 certification preferred.
    • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines.
    • Willingness to travel to project sites as necessary.
