Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Gel Coat role applies gel coat, a liquid that hardens to form a thick layer that is used to protect fiberglass and give it a shiny, smooth finish. This role utilizes various pistol grip type spray guns, hand tools such as wrenches and screwdrivers, utility knives, spray pump systems, protective equipment such as coverall Tyvek suits, head socks, rubber gloves, air supplied spray hoods or respirators, and safety glasses with sides shields.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Applies gel coating of CCBM molds and small parts according to production specifications and production schedule, ensuring color, finish and thicknesses are adhered to.
  • Maintains and cleans test gel coating equipment to ensure it operates as required.
  • Maintains a clean and environmentally safe work area.
  • Obtains a continued awareness and proactive actions regarding all health, safety and chemical protocols and processes.
  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum Degree Required: High School or Equivalent
  • Preferred Degree: Former Apprenticeship or associates degree preferred
  • Experience: Prior experience in industrial setting, preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
  • Proficient use of hand tools and operating a gel coat gun
  • Knowledge and experience in the preparation, evaluation, and application of coating systems.
  • Experience with solvents, gel coats, and release agents
  • Ability to maintain and adjust gel coat equipment
  • Ability to pass respirator fit test
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions and follow production schedule
  • Knowledge of hazardous chemical handling and disposal
  • Positive attitude, high dependability, and promotion of good morale
  • Reliable transportation, and good attendance are essential and required
  • Must follow all safety standards and procedures, including chemical handling standards and Personal Protective Equipment
  • Must adhere to all quality standards and adhere to new standards as processes evolve
  • Ability to use hand, battery, and pneumatic tools
  • Ability to work near co-workers and work in areas with limited space
  • Skills in forklift, overhead hoist, computer, fiberglass and/or gel-coat applications preferred
